I received a letter from an attorney saying my wages was being garnished by a company I have never heard of for a 7 year old hospital bill. Said they filed in civil court a year ago and I never showed up. I didn't even know about any court proceedings, I contacted the attorney and he said the time to talk about it is over and hung up the phone.

Disclaimer: I am not an attorney. I am just a consumer.
Based on what you wrote in the complaint, it sounds like the original creditor or debt buyer got a judgment against you. These judgments that were obtained without service to you can be fought.
Contact a good consumer attorney in your area. Don't speak to the debt collector. Remember their attorney represents them. You need someone to represent you and to negotiate a payout or have the judgment released.
By the way, in many states/counties (not all) you can look up your name to see what is filed against you. May as well take care of anything outstanding.
