On 06-10-2002 I was contacted by First Capitol Consumer Group and offered a Gold MasterCard with a $2,000 limit. Although I generally decline Credit Card offers via phone I considered this offer owing to the unbelievable APR, credit limit and low percentage rates...key word, unbelievabel. I did have adequit funds in my checking account, a secure income and I was slowly constructing a desirable financial situation, having just graduated college one year prior. The individual I spoke to from First Capitol Consumers Group, Craig, assured me I would recieve my First Capitol Consumers Card on 06-12-02 and the $199.00 fee would be debited from my account on the 14th. After ending the phone call and giving him all my account information from my bank debit card, I admit, I felt a little uneasy. The "Security Department" called me shortly there after to confirm my order of the Card to which I agreed. On 06-12-02 I did not recieve my ordered Credit Card and immediatly began to panic. I called the customer service number I was given and predictably, an answering service picked up and my only options were to either leave a message or call back. Every attempt to reach a live individual on this line was in vain therefore I gave up and tried to get ahold of Craig through the two numbers I found on my caller ID (416) 363-0895 or (416)488-8190 which also turned out to be completely useless. I was able to actually get ahold of and speak to a Mike Poter who evidently was the only customer service representative for that day. Mike(which I'm sure isn't his real name) conveniently had no idea where Craig was, "couldn't go in Craig's desk and dig for my file", "didn't know Craigs last name", "would give Craig the message that I wanted to cancel my order", and "was sure I'd get my card either tommarow or the next day". The whole ordeal was begining to make me furious and sick to my stomach and I wanted to reach through the phone and punch Mike Poter in the face for condoning this blatent scam. I did everything I could think of, called at least 25 or 30 times, left a slew of messages, spoke to Mike in an attempt to cancel this order of mine, provided all the numbers and codes that were given to me in the ordering process which, I'm sure mean nothing and then I came apon this website. This website was a smack in the face as well as the validation I needed to get myself to my bank and make sure that money was not withdrawl. I called the bank and assured them that I did not authorize the amount that was to be debited on the 14th...as of now I am still waiting for my response and I am working avidly to report this to the better business bureau and insure that this is the last time I get blind sided by one of these fly by night, crap shoot companies... Finally, I would like to suggest to anyone reading this report, never, ever give someone your personal banking information over the phone and if you are currently a victim of a ploy resembling this one, your not an idiot. Perhaps you optid to trust today. If this helps to rid the internet, phone lines or mail system of any illegitament companies making money off of "us", I'll be a gratified individual.
