TRULY IS A GREAT COMPANY, WILL GENERALLY WORK MOST OF THE TIME. WHEN I FIRST STARTED THERE, I WASNT SURE IF I WAS TO ENJOY THE IDEA OF SELLING A WARRANTY FOR SYSTEMS AND APPLIANCES. TRULY, FIRST AMERICAN IS A GREAT COMPANY, BUT IT IS A SHAME. REALLY IT IS THE CONTRACTORS THAT GIVE THEM A BAD NAME. WE AS RENEWAL AGENTS HAVE BEEN INSTRUCTED TO NO LONGER INCLUDE THE TERM "LICENSED" AS DESCRIBING OUR NETWORK TECHNICIANS. MOST STATES I NOTICE GENERICALLY REQUIRE CERTIFICATION ONLY. ONLY WHEN THEY HAVE TO SEND A LICENSED PERSON IS IF THEY REALLY BELIEVE THAT THEY NEED A LICENSED PERSON. MOST LICENSED PEOPLE ARE SMART ENOUGH TO RUN THEIR OWN BUSINESS. FOR THOSE WHO DO RUN THEIR OWN BUSINESS, AND FOR THOSE WITH CERTIFICATIONS ONLY BUT RUN THEIR OWN BUSINESS, LOOK TO FIRST AMERICAN TO SWELL THEIR CUSTOMER BASE, MOST ARE GREAT BUT THERE ARE A LOT OF BAD APPLES. FIRST AMERICAN USES TECHS WHO OBVIOUSLY DIDNT MAKE IT IN THE REAL WORLD 30-60 PERCENT OF THE TIME. HOWEVER, I HAVE SEEN THE BEST OF SITUATIONS. I HAVE SEEN US INSTALL A A SYSTEM FOR OLD PEOPLE ON A BUDGET. SAVING THE CUST A 3-4 THOUSAND DOLLAR REPLACEMENT ISSUE FOR ABOUT 200 BUCKS IS AWESOME. I WIL ALSO POINT OUT THAT OF COURSE WE WILL SEE BAD APPLES IN BUNCHES. AND OF COURSE AN INSURANCE REGULATED F.A. WILL USE CHEAP WHOLE SALE METHODS. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE TECHS ARENT PAID WELL ENOUGH SO THEY CAN ACQUIRE SERVICE CALL FEES BASICALLY SOMETIMES JUST BY SHOWING UP AND DENYING. F.A. WATCHES THE "BOTTOM LINE". READ THE CONTRACT. YOU FOLKS PAY 4-5 HUNDRED A YEAR FOR IT, I CANT SAY HOW OFTEN I HEAR "YOU WOULDNT COVER MY FAUCET". NO SH**. IT READS AS NOT COVERED RIGHT FRICKEN BELOW WHAT IS COVERED. THE PROBLEMS ARE SOME TIMES JUST BASIC MAINTENANCE ISSUES. NOT BROKEN BUT JUST NEEDING FILTERS OR REMOVING FOOD FROM YOUR STUPID DISHWASHER. BUT, YOU DID PAY FIFTY BUCKS FOR A DIAGNOSIS THAT NORMALLY RUNS YOU 80 TO 100+ AN HOUR OUT OF THE YELLOW PAGES. ASK FOR PROOF THE TECH IS LICENSED. ASK FOR PROOF HE OR SHE IS INSURED. USUALLY ARE. SOME OF THESE KIDS ARE FRESH OUT OF COLLEGE, AND ARE WORKING INDEPENDATLY. SOME ARE OLDER MEN WHO ARE ALCHOHOLICS,AND NEVER MADE IT. BUT THE POINT IS THAT THEY WORK FOR LESS. SO, A SIX DOLLAR BURGER TASTES WAY GREATER THAN A 99 CENT BURGER RIGHT? WELL, TRUTH BE TOLD THEY SELL WAY MORE 99 CENT BURGERS AND THEY LOOK LIKE SH**. SRENEDIPITY WITH ALL SORTS OF THIS PARAMOUNT INTO A FORTUNE FIVE HUNDRED COMPANY THAT THRIVES ON NEW BUSINESS, UNSUSPECTING CUSTOMERS, AND AN GOOD RENEWALS STAFF. I WOULDNT BUY A WARRANTY. BUT I WOULD BE NICE TO THE RENEWALS GUY CALLING YOU TO PROTECT YOUR HOME. THEY REALLY BELIEVE IN WHAT THEY SELL. SAD, ISNT IT? ONE FINAL POINT IS THAT i have never seen a customer post a page anywhere online or tie a streamer to a plane saying "thank you first american for replacing my water heater or ac system or my attic fan gfi! you saved me hella money!." but you will always seem to hear the angry customers. seems no one go's out of their way to complement any company like that. and there will always be 99 cent hamburgers. just make sure they are real hamburgers.
