When another person in my neighborhood with same name as mine moved, my mail carrier provided "Address Correction Requested" information to Fingerhut. The carrier mistakenly provided my address. because of this, Fingerhut attempted to collect a 3 months past due account from me totalling over $671.00. I contacted Fingerhut and informed them that I didn't have an acount with them and also that there was another person in my neighborhood with the same name. I know becuase I received his mail on occasion. After receiving another bill for this amount, I contacted the post office and the carrier admitted forwarding my address information to Fingerhut and that she would provide them with the correct information. Over a year passed without hearing from Fingerhut and I thought the case was dropped.

In July, 2002, I received a letter from Allied Intestate collection agency for $671.00. I mailed a rebuttal to them and also to Axsys National Bank which had assuned the account from Fingerhut. I also contacted Axsys by phone and was able to get information from the person I spoke with that the account was opened by said person with the address that I suspected was his and also I provided the last four digits of my SS# and she validated that this did not match the person on file.

She then mailed a form which I filled out, detailing the problem. After a month or so I had not received any feedback from this, so I called and was told that there was absolutely nothing that they could do as the account was turned over to Allied for collection. I wasn't allowed to speak to the person that I initially talked to.

To bring this story to an end, Allied dropped the case and I thought I was in the clear. Nope... The account has now been turned over to Pinnacle collection service. When I contacted them on the phone today, Feb. 19, 2003, I detailed my case and I asked the lady how I can get this case settled so I can prevent being harrased by another collection agency. She suggested that I just pay the amount I am being billed for and I suggested that she go to hell!

Thankfully nothing has been submitted to the Credit Bureau about this. I spoke with an attorney about this problem and he told me that if it does get reported, we can file a suit aginst Axsys. I read in a previous post here(Sue from Bay City, Michigan) that another person has had a problem similar to mine and a respondee provided some contact information to help settle the problem.

I called Axsys this mrning and found out that the Fingerhut acounts had been sold to Compucredit. I was given a number to call and I detailed all of the information that I had detailed before with Axsys. Also, I am hoping the mail carrier can provide them with the correct address for this person. They will mail me a form to fill out so that I can give them the necessary information in writing. It seems that Axsys knows that the account cannot be collected from me, so they are trying to bilk another credit company. I'm hoping that these people will exonerate me and and go after the real dead beat.
