RE: A Text Message Scam using Facebook as the bait

The following is a copy of the messaging text trail between me and an obvious Scammer beginning on January 26, 2018 at 1:36 PM.

Please take whatever action you deem appropriate, including, but not limited to, reporting it to others who might be interested in the information, pursuing criminal investigation and prosecution against the perpetrators, and/or civil or administrative action against the perpetrator(s) and/or any individual(s) or any entity facilitator(s) of the scam.

Scammer: Hello good day, how are you doing today.?

 

Me: Who is this?

 

Scammer: My name is Michael Gilbert  from the Facebook Headquarters based in the

USA, I am a Facebook Online Coordinator..... And its

nice meeting you.

 

Me: What is the reason/purpose you contacted me?

 

Scammer: Well I was assigned to contact you by the Facebook CEO Mr Mark Zuckerberg..

 

Me: For what reason?

 

Me: What info? Please stop being piece meal with the info and fully explain your purpose for the contact.

 

Scammer:been inform about the on going Facebook international online promotion

going on in the internet 2018 and have you been inform

 

Scammer: We are sorry for the late announcement of your winnings Prize to you,I am

pleased to inform you of the result of the just concluded annual final draws heldon the 25th of January 2018 by Facebook

group in cash promotion to encourage the usage of Facebook worldwide.

 

Me: NO, and I'm not interested! If you would have been up front in the beginning all this back and forth exchange of texting could have been avoided. Absolutely inexcusable!

 

Scammer: The promotion going on is to show a sign of appreciation to our valuable Facebook users using Facebook to Communicate with their family and loved ones and making Facebook their number one means to Connect, Communicate, Relate and Hook up with their Families and Friends over the Years. Your profile was selected among the lucky Winners that was selected randomly for the winnings

 

Scammer: I am delighted to inform you that your name was luckily selected among the

Twenty (20) lucky winners who won the sum of six

 

THOUSAND United State Dollars ($600,000,00)

 

And on Behalf of the Facebook Board We Say CONGRATULATION !!!

 

Me: Still! You should have said all this in the begining.

 

Scammer: I am your claims officer and i am here to take you through the steps on how

you will get your winnings.

 

Me: OK, but it all sounds like a scam. You need to completely verify everything up front. I will provide you with NO info until you do. I will then independently verify the info, including your ID.

 

Scammer: I want you to know that this is 100% real and legitimate..As a matter of fact the FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION (FBI of the USA) is aware of this on going promotion promotions, so you have nothing to worry about OK

 

Me: I am contacting the FBI right now about this. Do not reply until you hear from me.

 

Scammer: This is part of our security protocol to avoid double claiming and unwarranted abuse of this program by some participants and scam artists all participantswere selected through a computer ballot system drawn from over 20,000 companies and 30,000,000 individuals email addresses from all over the world. This promotional program takes place every three years. You may be rest assured that this is real and legal. There are some scam artists around but thanks to the FBI, 3000 of them have been arrested.

 

Me: I have been advised to get your personal name, home address, telephone #, Facebook employee #, Facebook supervisor's name,   telephone # & email address, your computer's IP and MAC address.

 

Scammer: I really understand you,That's why we keep contacting our winners this very way and all is for security reasons,You have no problem with me..

Hope you understand?

 

Me: Then send to me the requested info or terminate your messaging to me

 

Scammer: Firstly you will have to write this numbers down because it is important and compulsory.

Scammer: We don't really need your personal Information for this as you got to go through necessary process to Claim your Winnings.

 

Do write down the Winnings Number and get back to us as soon as possible so we can proceed with you.

 

Me: I'm not doing anything with you until you provide me with the requested info. Furthermore, you have confirmed to me that this a scam. Get lost scumbag!

 

Next Day - Januarary 27, 2018:

 

Scammer: Hello good morning Dear Winner

 

Me: Get lost scammer!

 

Scammer: I understand you and i know how you feel about this Dear Winner but i want you to know that this Promotion Program is 0 Legitimate and it got nothing todo with a scam.

 

Me: BS

 

Next Day - January 28, 2018:

 

Scammer: HAPPY WEEKEND DEAR WINNER!

 

Scammer:
