Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I have wrote to Experian on several ocassions to dispute items on my credit report. My credit scores with Equifax and Transunion are remarkable.. Experian is listing several items that do not belong to me and I have wrote several letters to this matter.. On one occasion they informed me that they investigated the item, but when I contacted Exxon myself, they informed me that my account has been closed out for over 3 years and my file is in Archive..So, how could they have investigated it, when they could not help me with my own account, when I contacted them.

They really need to do their job and investigate the items, when consumers are attempting to dispute. A person's credit is really important to them, and to have a Credit Bureau like Experian make it hard to become financially stable..

A law need to be passed to have Experian actually do their job and investigate these items.

Please assist me if you can.

Thanks

Valerie

Valerie - IF you do it EXACTLY as I described, they CANNOT use the automated process!

Valerie, Do your dispute EXACTLY as I described above, and then they CANNOT use the automated process or they WILL be in violation of the FCRA. Experian hates me.

I spoke with a represenative today at Experian and she informed me that they have a automated system department that contacts the various creditors to find out if the items that are being disputes is accurate.. This process should not be allowed, because I would want a live person, contacting the company directly to inquire about the dispute and not just the realiablity of a contact department to send a message to advise if this account really belongs to me.. As, I have stated before, I have not had a problem with Transunion or Equifax investigating the items that I dispute... Experian, really need to do their job and investigate your disputes more professionally.

The answer for LORI re disputes

#4Consumer Suggestion

LORI, It is VERY important to do your dispute EXACTLY as I described above. Here are the highlights: >> First, NEVER use the online dispute form. NEVER!! ALWAYS do your disputes in writing, AND send them only by certified mail, return reciept requested. Be sure to put the certified# on the letter itself and keep a copy for your records. Now, in this letter, you must be VERY specific. First, the reason for dispute: NOT MY ACCOUNT,WRONG STATUS,etc. Short and sweet. Now for the biggie. According to the provisions of the FCRA, you have the right to copies of all communications used in the investigation of your dispute, BUT you MUST ask for it! Credit file disputes are costly and time consuming. And credit bureaus are FOR PROFIT businesses, so they will only do what you FORCE them to do. Now, if you do it as I said, wait 30-45 days for it to be resolved, and if it is not done, now you have your evidence to file a lawsuit for the non compliance. Don't get mad, GET PAID!! >> The sure fire way of getting accurate reporting is to file lawsuits on both the CRA and the creditor/debt collector. This works every time! FYI..Experian is the worst of the big 3 to deal with, and has the worst dispute process. That's why they do not advertise a physical address anymore and press everyone to do online disputes. The reason they like online disputes is that you have no proof of what you disputed, and cannot sue them when they fail to comply with the FCRA as you have no evidence. However, I have the PHYSICAL address for EXPERIAN disputes right here: PO Box 9701 Allen, TX 75013 or: 701 Experian Parkway Allen, TX 75002 Corporate headquarters Experian 475 Anton Blvd. Costa Mesa, CA 92626 714 830 7000 Experian 955 American Lane Schaumburg, IL 60173 847 517 5600 >> I hope this helps!

I pulled my credit report from experian today, and guess what? The SAME accounts that I disputed last year are still on my account this year. One of the accounts has already been paid TWICE (once through the company when we closed the account, and once through the collection agency a couple of years later. it was a small amount $29. after arguing with them and getting no where. I figured at least that way there was NO dispute. This account is STILL listed as OPEN and UNPAID, despite the fact that I sent both the collection agency AND experian documentation of payment!). Another account is listed as MCI from 2006 (from LVNV. imagine that!), which I've already disputed once, because I've had the same telephone company for 8 years! There are also multiple listings for the SAME debt, without notations that the accounts were sold. This debt was for 2 cc accounts with Providian, both from 2001. I offered a payment plan, they refused and listed it as bad debt. They then sold it, same scenario, and sold it yet AGAIN, same scenario. This debt is now listed 6 TIMES as outstanding, with a notation that I dispute it but it still stands. I notice that the amount grows with each additional listing, and although I've made payment arrangements and faithfully paid (and only because we finally went to court and I showed the Judge proof that I had attempted MANY times to make arrangements, all of which were refused, and she told them they had to work with me) on the debts as promised, there have been no updates to my report indicating that any effort has been made. I give up. I don't know what else to do, because it seems that there is NO WAY to win with this company. I will never have a decent credit rating again because I'm NOT going to pay this debt three times to have it cleared off. The credit bureaus have become as crooked as the collection companies anymore, which makes them about useless. Steve, if you have any suggestions that I haven't come up with yet to get this straightened up, I'm willing to give it a try, but it seems that 'conventional' methods have gotten me no where. Good luck to anyone working with this company!

Valerie, it is all in the wording of your dispute

Valerie, The first thing is something that confuses me. You first said that "Experian is listing several items that do not belong to me".., but then you say you contacted Exxon and they verified your account was closed for 3 years! Which is it? And, What EXACTLY was the nature of the item you disputed? You never specified. Successful disputes are tricky, especially with EXPERIAN. Getting results are dependent on holding them accountable. First, NEVER use the online dispute form. NEVER!! ALWAYS do your disputes in writing, AND send them only by certified mail, return reciept requested. Be sure to put the certified# on the letter itself and keep a copy for your records. Now, in this letter, you must be VERY specific.
