On 3/10/04 I was charged 9.95 by this company on my Mastercard. I did not authorize this charge; indeed, I have never heard of them.

After unsuccessfully trying to contact ews-design, I promptly contacted my credit union, but have not had a lot of success. They claim they must issue me a new card number before they can reverse the charge, saying that Mastercard requires this.

While I am willing to do this, I am reluctant because I have several recurring automatic charges to this card, and it's going to be a pain to get it all changed over. I

tried to find a window in which activity was at a lull, but today I finally decided to bite the bullet. So I went in to get a new card, and now they're telling me that once they issue me a new card, neither the new card nor the old will work for a period of at least one day,

possibly several days.

What a joke! I get the feeling they hope I will just forget about the whole thing. It's practically like they're trying to talk me out of changing the card number.

They say it is NOT necessary to change the card number to reverse the charge. I'm going to call my credit union back tomorrow with that tidbit, and see what they have to say. It seems clear that ews-design.com has obtained a database of card numbers and expiration dates. I wonder where from - it would be great if there was a way to figure out what we all have in common.
