About 3 years ago I got a Getsmart Visa. I had great history with them. I got notice my card was sold to Providian, still had no problems. Then one day recieved a bill for Emerge mastercard and had no idea what for. I never even recieved the actual credit card.

After months of trying to contact company by internet and phone I stopped trying. In Nov of 2002 I recieved a phone call from Emerge wanting a payment over the phone. I agreed on terms I would get statement in the mail. That didnt happen. In May of 2003 I received another call wanting another payment. This time I was told they were going to set up some kinda of payment plan with no late fees or added interest. Still nothing in the mail.

In july I got another call wanting more money and saying that my balance was now over 500 dollars. My credit limit was only 300. This time I refused saying I would not give them anymore money til I got something in the mail with account info and company info. Still nothing.. but harassing phonecalls.. everyday.

I couldnt even get them to give me the person's name or extension and everytime I talked to someone different who had no idea what was going on.. or just acted as if they didnt. After threatening to report them to BBB I finally recieved a statement in the mail in Nov of 2003. At that time my balance was up too over 1000 dollars.

Now Emerge has sent my account to collections and balance is over close to 1200 dollars. They are threatening to take me to court.

If anyone has any info or similiar complaints please let me know.

I just got a call today about an account I had with Providian and you just jogged my memory because they had sold my account to emerge. I hadn't received anything from them and then today out of the blue some guy calls tells me I owe Providian $3000. I told him I didn't think so because I knew I had paid one off. Until I logged on to ripoff report, it finally dawned on me that its actually emerge. They haven't sent me anything for months and now the guy said see you in court. So I guess now that is where I'm headed even though I hadn't had any response from them well over six months.
