I recently tried Earthlink ISP. I downloaded the software and signed up. The software kept hanging up Windows and would let me use my computer for anything else. After about four days of working with their technical support and not being able to fix the problem, I canceled my account. I was finaly able to remove the Earthlink software and restore my computer after about two weeks with the help of a friend who is a software specialist.

Recently I received my credit card bill showing I owed Earthlink 20.00. Ok, I can live with that, even though I wasn't able to use their useless software for even a second. But the real RIP OFF is when I saw on my credit card bill a charge from EARTHLINK for 85 dollars. They called it a CANCELATION FEE!

I checked the agreement and lo and behold, down at the bottom in real small letters THERE IT WAS: IF YOU CANCEL FOR ANY REASON THEY CHARGE YOU 85.00.

YOU KNOW I AM A NOT A WELL TO DO RICH MAN. I USE EVERY PENNY I GET TO FEED MY FAMILY AND BUY THEM CLOSE AND PAY FOR THIER EDUCATION. I NEEDED TO SIGN UP ON THE NET TO HELP MY DAUGHTER IN HER SCHOOL ASSIGNMENTS.

EARTHLINK STOLE 85.00 FROM ME.

What this consumer is neglecting to mention is that he signed up for a promotion to recieve free equipment that had already shipped out to him. When signing up for a promo of this nature, there is an $89 pro-rated early cancellation fee. If the customer cancels the account AND refuses the equipment then no cancellation charge is applied. Note for all customers: Were all adults and all know that NOTHING is completely free. Agreements need to be read (you know warrenties, contracts and such) and understood when taken on. When this customer signed up he was told at the time of signing up what the terms of agreement were. Not only was he told but he had the information IN FRONT OF HIM IN PRINT. We at EarthLink make no effort to hide information and in fact when we do find the occasional "bad apple" we crush it immedieately and throw it in the garbage where it belongs. Though our spelling may be atrocious, we provide a good, honest service which I'm proud to be a part of... and no, that isn't the stock options talking either~ LOL
