Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I too am a victim. I bought a 2002 Chevy Cavalier at the location in Marietta, Georiga. I knew that my credit was less than stellar, and that I did not have much money for a down payment. I knew that the interest was going to kill me, but I thought that I was getting a GOOD, DEPENDABLE used car.

I paid $500 down, and my payments are $174.18 every two weeks. I knew that it was a lot, but I needed a car. I work two jobs, and take a friend to dialysis three times a week. When I bought this car, the salesman assured me that this car underwent a detailed inspection and that it was safe to drive.

Things went great. Then I did not make a payment on time. Not only did they harrass me, my boyfriend, my mother, and my family, but also my employers. How embarrassing. Let me mention, that I was only two days late. (It was a weekend)

Then I got sick, my roommate moved out, and the restaurant business was slow. I made arrangements to "break up a payment."

The harrassment began. Weeks and weeks. They stated that they could not find my money order for $200. I had to find my receipt by 3 pm or they would make a "business decision." They harrassed me for how much? $300? $100? $75? No. $35. It was one of three "late fees" they accessed my account. You know what? No problem. I understand they are a business and they have to make money.

Imagine my surprise when after having my car only 6 months, it breaks down on the interstate. Come to find out....it is the transmission. I have to now pay $2467.00 to have it repaired. It seems the previous owner either was towing something or was just a really bad driver. The torque converter dissipated, and broke down into the transmission, thus ruining my whole transmission. The transmission in that car is one of the best on the market right now. There is NO reason that under normal circumstances that this transmission should have any problems before 200,000 miles. How many miles do I have on my car....61,000. This "problem" should have been caught under any thorough "inspection" of the major systems of the car. I was told that it had been under an intense inspection before I bought it.

My car is worth $10,000.00 Buy the time I pay it off I will have paid over $15,000.00 Now, since I have to put a new transmission in it I will pay over $17,500.00 The harrassment and embarrassment was bad enough, but now I can't even drive it and I am paying over $300 a month.

I can assure you that I would not have purchased this car, if I had known that the transmission was about to break down. Or even if I had knowledge that the transmission was not in the best condition. I would have moved along.

With a problem this major, someone knew about it. This was not a problem that "just happens". Someone lied. An inspection could not have been done.

I also found out that my friend went to the same place and has trouble with her car. She has a 2001 Kia Rio. After driving her car one week the check engine light came on. Drivetime stated that she could take it to a Kia dealer. She did. This car was in a wreck which caused the gas line to be off "kilter". It is very costly to replace it. She gave Drivetime the findings and they told her that it was not covered in her warranty. She was never told that her car had been in an accident. She had to pay over $1000.00 to get it fixed.

I know that my local office will not do anything. I am contacting the corporate office. I am also consulting the DMV, Office of Consumer Affairs, Better Business Bureau, Fox 5, CBS 11, and anyone else who will listen.

BEEN THERE DONE THAT

Susy, You asked the question, "How would you feel gentlemen if you lost your job, your savings, and you hit rock bottom with no fault of your own". I have been there and done that, It has taken me over 14 years for me to climb up out of the hole that yes I put myself in. In 92 I was released from the USN, just married with a child, pennyless, with no job, so I can comment on this, I did not pretend that it was anyones else's fault but my own. I learned the rules of credit responsability, budgeting, and the diffrence between wanting and needing, I still stand by my prior post Buyer Beware, Unfortionatly there are many auto dealers out in the world that are awaiting for consumers that are creditly challenged. Before anyone goes to these predetor dealers, they should know the only thing these dealers care about is your money. I can not say it enough BUYER BEWARE!!! John

I have to respond to this because John and Jim are speaking to a women who spends alot of her time helping other people. Drive time takes advantage of people in her situation. People have credit issues for varoious reasons not always because they dont pay their bills. It is assume right away that you are some sort of low life. Thats the farthest from the truth. Do you think its fair for a company to be allowed to ripp people off becuase of a credit report?Other car dealer ships do not have to make money by businees practices like this. It is supposed to be a second chance. It does not give them the right to ripp you off or to treat you with disrespect. If you dont pay let them come get the car but do not justify their treatment of people. Its wrong. How would you feel gentlemen if you lost your job, your savings, and you hit rock bottom with no fault of your own. Your feelings on this situation would not be the same. We should stick together and get comanies like this to adhere to some consumer laws like all the rest.

Amanda, Do you ever remember the phrase BUYER BEWARE, says it all. You still have some options left. 1. Refinance auto else ware. 2. Actually read your Contact it should state in the Contract what your are bound buy. Take it to an Attorney. 3. Do you know that your Auto may be Reposed just being 1 day late on payment not having proper Ins etc. Read you're CONTACT. 4. Did you use Carfax to check out your Auto, Did you contact prior owner of your auto? 5. Check on any recalls for your Auto 6. Remember that the Car dealer job is to make money, unfortunately at your cost. Good Luck with this. John

Anyway where you would fit in the time to inspect someone's work.

Not that it is any of your business, but I do have a checking account. Maybe you are not aware of this but there is a 10 day grace period before they start to charge a late fee. This location in Marietta will call you the day your payment is due and tell you that it is late. They call you and everyone you know everyday. They even call after you have made the payment. They demanded a check by phone when it was still in my ten day period. I had mailed the payment over a week prior to this. I called the location, and my payment had been posted for 3 days. No, I did not have my car inspected by a mechanic when I purchased it. I was told and signed a piece of paper where a 90 point inspection was done. I have since spoken with Drive Time and since I did not have them fix my car, they will not help me. I advised them that I did not trust their workmanship. Besides, I knew the would not help anyway. The only reason I got a phone call anyway, is because I had an attorney call them. Right now it is not about the money. My car can sit at the shop for a year. It is about the princple. I looked through my paperwork, and did not see the inspection sheet that I knew I signed. I asked for it, but was told that they do not have it. I am not saying that all cars from Drive Time are bad. But they obviously do not care about your safety or satisfaction once you left the lot. So Jim from Orlando, when you are a single woman with 3 jobs, take care of a dialysis patient and a child, and volunteer with the National Kidney Foundation maybe you can tell me where you would fit in the time to inspect someone's work.

Amanda: Several things in your posting stood out...and remember my goal here is to help you in your NEXT purchase. Did you have an independent mechanic you paid for check this car out? Doesn't look like it. Why are you paying these bills with a stupid money order? Get a checking account! You were late in a payment and they started calling. What in the hell did you expect them to do? You agreed to make all the payments on time every time. Finally, forget and I said FORGET the BBB. The BBB is a grossly over hyped USELESS operation. It has NO VALUE!

WILLING TO TELL MY EXPERIENCE WITH DRIVESLIME

#8Consumer Suggestion

Thu, September 16, 2004

Amanda, if you get in contact with ANYONE, please let me know. I would be more than willing to blast driveslime for their poor service and shotty vehicles. I heard an ad on the radio this morning advertising a sale on the exact car i have, only brand new. They are charging the same price i am paying for mine and its 3 years old. As far as your car goes, you should get an estimate and some sort of documentation that the reason the transmission blew is because of stupidity and wrecklessness of the previous owner. Then call Elvy Karagic @ the corporate office at 480-813-5195. Don't let them beat you. I don't know about you but I work hard, everyday for my money and I can't afford to give it away in exchange for a pile of tin that's sitting in my driveway. I'm sure the head men in charge (i was told they are Ernie Garcia and Ray Sidel or Fidel, whatever) but im sure they have a few cars, and I would bet my life that they would never get a drivetime vehicle.
