Ms. Stillwell at Dorrance speaks of this matter as a fun thing, the promotions agreed to. The fun Ms. Stillwell is referring to must be during the contract negotiations when I tried to get the books purchased at 50% off in order to make a profit. I was then told I did not have to sell any Dorrance would take care of all of that, the only thing needed of me was to do book signings and interviews that Dorrance would set up for me if I would and to return the tax statement to get paid . I agreed to do whatever was set up; it made me feel real good and that motivated me to spent eight thousand dollars (48 pages) to get my work published and promoted.

I have statements showing from book sellers showing Durance’s nonperformance of offering my book on consignment as agreed to in my contract.  Offers for book signings would not be accepted in Barnes & Noble or Books-a-Million in the manner my book was listed, so why are they used in the contract as a hook? My book was banned from the shelves of stores listed?

From the 815 contacts in the news media claimed to have been made, I have not been able to obtain any names contacted for interviews according to our contract. None of the libraries or other book sellers checked knew anything of my book. I have been told by Michael Knapp the promotion rep those listed he claimed to have been contacted must have forgotten and that he may or may not have received promotions but they know where they can find the information for my book.

Dorrance should be held accounted for the contract signed and not some so-called favors that are yet to be proven.

Instead of the endless blaming of all others involved, proof of performance would be preferred.  The contract states what I paid for and the seriousness of what’s contained in my book shows how ridiculous Ms. Stillwell sounds when she speaks of a fun thing. Contrary to what Ms. Stillwell has fixated in her mind, spending $8000 and not getting what I paid for is not a fun thing. No promotions was like test driving a car and after purchasing the vehicle, you find the motor is not included.

We are sorry to hear that this individual continues to be unhappy about the sales and promotion of his book, as we have previously addressed these same issues both directly with him, with his attorney, and with the Better Business Bureau (who closed his complaint as "resolved").

As we have explained to him several times, we have performed the services which were specified in his contract.  We have promoted the book (in accordance with our detailed promotion plan) and have made it available for sale.  We cannot and do not guarantee how many sales will result from this.  We were to distribute information about his book to 300 media contacts and actually distributed information to a total of 817 contacts instead, going above and beyond our obligations.  While each media representative may not be the perfect fit for his book, to create the list we utilize a professional media database which sorts results based on the author's location as well as the subject matter of the book.

The contacts selected have indicated to this database that their coverage includes either newly published books, features on local authors, or matters related to the subject of your book.  We have found this to be a reliable source and method of compiling contact lists for promotion of our books.  In any publicity or promotion endeavor, one cannot guarantee the response which will be generated.  We did, as promised, offer the book on consignment and attempt to set up autograph signings and media interviews; unfortunately, we found no stores or media outlets which were interested at this time.  We cannot control or predict the responses of these third parties.

The book is available for sale, and we sell our books to bookstores (both indepedent and large chains) all of the time.  Again, we cannot guarantee that any particular book will be chosen by any particular store.

We are very sorry again to hear that this author has been disappointed in the results of his publication, but we have performed the services which he purchased, in accordance with our agreement.  We certainly take our responsibilities to our contract seriously and do not treat them as "fun" or frivolous as this author has implied.
