I received a bill from my Newport News Credit card account (which is handled by First Consumers National Bank - FCNB) for a charge I did not recognize nor make.

I called FCNB and was told I should call Directone L.D. I told them that I had tried calling them and their phone line was always busy. They said my account was past due (apparently 2 months' worth of long distance service had been billed to my acct.) and I should try calling again, as they (FCNB/Newport News) could not credit my account, only Directone had the ability to credit my acct.

I called Directone again and finally got through. While I was on hold I looked up Directone on the internet and found this web site, Ripoff Report. When Directone finally came on the phone, I explained that I had never ordered their service, and they said it was done by "birth date". They didn't elaborate, but said that they could only credit for one month's charges, not both.

He said a "senior rep" from their company would call me regarding the 2nd month's charges. I told them I found a report about their company and the same identical circumstances had happened to two other people who submitted their report to this web site, and that a district attorney may be investigating these reports. He then decided to give me a refund for the 2nd month's charges, and asked for more information about the web site. I gave him the web address.

I then called back FCNB and told them that I should be getting a credit for the bill for the 2 months' fees. I told the rep at FCNB about the web site , Ripoff Report, and gave her the web site, so her manager could take a look at it.

I hope this will help warn others to check their bills very carefully, as it is more than a simple error that all these people had the same problem with Directone. I will continue to monitor this matter until it is resolved.

Directone needs to be looked at very carefully. If anyone else has had a similar problem, please write to this web site! Thank you and good luck.
