I had used Direct TV for 2 years, and had direct withdrawal with their company. I had a circumstance where I had tried to "discontinue" Earthlink (Earthstink), but could not get them to stop taking money out of my account until I had to change my credit card number. (Another fun time trying to deal with a customer service located in India where they conveniently disconnect you when you have a problem.).

Anyway, I was gone and when I returned, I received a bill of over $200 from Direct TV since they could no longer take money directly out of my account. I called for an explanation of the bill and immediately sent a payment in full via US mail.... on Wednesday morning. Saturday afternoon, a day after they probably received my payment, I returned home to find my service disconnected. I called immediately and tried to give their d**n "Customer Service" person, who, is in the Philippines, the information on the check I had sent.

Her "solution", after informing me of the time she told me it takes the US Mail to deliver (lessons for US citizens from foreign agents) that I could either pay more money or wait until the check was posted by them, sometime next week. I refused to pay more money and asked to speak to a supervisor as I had all my check information to convey to them (any company can simply accept a payment by check so they could have done that and then muted the physical check when it arrived... assuming they really didn't have it in their possession yet.

Anyway, the upshot was that they would only restore my service with more payment... which of course I refused. I am instructing my wife to attempt to stop payment on the check I sent them and will go to Bell South's service, which, I discovered today, after this happened, is less money for more channels than the Rip Off Direct TV's disgusting service. Here in Miami, Direct TV's supposed great reception is constantly interrupted by passing storms so switching after this outrage is probably beneficial in the long run...

Personally, I wish US companies would keep their customer service here in the USA and support this country, instead of saving money and giving their customers considerably less quality customer service than they previously had using United States labor...
