I made a deal over the phone and internet with a Mesa Autoplex for a utv they had listed for a buy it now price of $17000.  My trade was a very nice 1976 Toyota Land Cruiser.  I vividly described the unit, stating that it was no show piece, had several small spots and described them in the videos. I included a link to my Craigslist add where I had my Land Cruiser listed for $13000.00.  After 4 days of back and forth, with my explanation of them having their vehicle listed several thousand over value, we agreed that I would bring my vehicle to them in Mesa, AZ, from Wichita Falls, TX, as well as, pay $700.00 difference.

In the meantime, before leaving to Arizona, my wife found that they had several complaints and an Ebay user rating of 89%.  I contacted them and expressed my concern about their reputation and  they assured me they were legit and honest.  Hardly!  I told them to survey my videos and pictures, thoroughly, and let me know if they had any question, beyond a shadow of doubt that they would take the trade, to please let me know and I would not send the vehicle on an 1860 mile round trip.  They assured me that it was a done deal, so I bought a new enclosed trailer, just to make sure nothing happened in transit, and sent a friend with my pickup, trailer, and Land Cruiser to Desert Autoplex.

I felt so good about the deal and confident that it would be a quick and simple transaction for my friend transport the vehicle, but was completely wrong.  My friend called with concern as soon as he got there. He said they just seemed shady and to expect a call trying to get more money out of me now that we had committed to such a long trip.  He was dead on.  After several phone calls of them trying to talk my Land Cruiser down and trying to take advantage of me having spent so much sending this unit on a 1860 mile round trip, I got pretty rude and to the point, explaining all that I had gone through to describe my Land Cruiser.

The salesman, Don, said, "Well your Land Cruiser is only a $13000 vehicle.  I almost lost it all together explaining to him that $13000 was the original price on the craigslist listing that i had sent them a link to.  I then talked with the general manager, Eric, who tried to cover for his salemen's mistakes by rudely stated that my Land Cruiser was a "Turd".  I have had several Land Cruisers and this one is by far the nicest.  I have had professional rebuilders tell me that it is one of the best they have seen that has not had a body off restoration, and very little rust to boot.

I told my friend to load up my Land Cruiser and head back.  Complete loss of money and waste of time!  These guys are crooks and I would suggest to any would be buyers, Go somewhere else!!!  There are still honest dealers out there.  Desert Autoplex is not one of them and this, as well and scores of other complaints should prove that to anyone looking to trade with them!
