I have a 2002 Kia Rio. It was not purchased at the dealership involved, but they finished killing my car. When purchasing the vehicle, I bought an extended warranty that covered the timing belt up to 100000 miles. The timing belt had already been changed at 29000 miles. My car had 97000 miles on it and the timing belt broke and fried my engine. The service managers at Dean McCrary Kia lead me to believe the timing belt repair would be taken care of by the extended warranty and the engine taken care of by the manufacturer warranty. After my engine was in pieces, they called and said the warranty would not pay for my engine. My car was towed back to my house and I was charged $640.20 for them to take my engine apart and leave it in pieces in a box in the trunk. Now I am stuck with a lemon that I still owe $2900 on. I am filing another rip off report against Kia Motors America where I will say all the other problems I've had with the car, and why I need a federal attorney to help me. If any read this please reply. Thank you,

I also was ripped off by Dean MCcrary Kia, I bought a new SEdona Van from them in 2003 and was told if I sent them customers and they purchased vehicles they would pay me 100.00 for each one. As a result I sent them 2 customers that purchased a Sedona Van and a Serento SUV, I never saw the money they had promised, even though I talked to the manager many times regarding this mater!!! The salespersons name was Karen. What a bunch of crooks. I have since purchased a toyota and will never buy another Kia because of my experience with this shady dealer!!!

Just Don't Waste You Money On This Junk

I filed a federal lawsuit against Kia and settled for $2000. I wasn't happy with that amount, but if they thought they could win, they would have fought harder. I suggest to everyone to find out a very important piece of information before you buy a car. Does the engine have a timing belt or an internally lubricated timing chain? Kia's supposed maintenance schedule will drive you broke. I now own a Toyota Yaris with Toyota's very good 1.5L engine that has an internally lubricated timing chain that requires no maintenance. I have 50,000 miles already and have only changed the oil. The people at Kia believe that a car is built to maintain, but the people at Toyota know that we don't have time for that crap. The Toyota serviceman even told me he didn't know if I ever had to change the spark plugs, and only to do it when it feels necessary. Maybe it will be at 100000 miles with my factory installed iridium plugs. Kia is garbage. I would suggest anyone looking at a Rio to spend just a little more and buy a Toyota Yaris. You'll be much happier and save lots more money in the long run (because the Kia just won't run). BOTTOM LINE: KIA RIOS ARE GARBAGE

to whom it may concern, the customer saying he got ripped off was told to produce records of timing belt being replaced ,and couldnt.without said records.kia nor the extended warraty is not liable for veh breaking down.if customers want to come down on the manufactures,read the owners manuel before they accuse them of wrong doing. it states in all manuels.MAINTANCE MUST BE KEPT UP TO MANUFATURES RECOMENDATIONS.AND MUST KEEP ALL RECIEPTS,AND DOCUMATATIONS OF MAINTANCE DONE. carring employee;;;;

Why post the same complaint twice?

But in this complaint, you state that you hadn't done your timing belt for 77,000 miles? As I said in my previous post, that is a big NO-NO. You need to review your maintenance schedule. This is NOT a warrantied item. The timing belt needs to be replaced every 60000 miles according to KIA, based on the miles you have driven it every year, which computes to about 19400. Now, if you changed it at 60000 miles, it would've been covered for breakage.
