My husband got his CDL through MTA schools in Utah and was promised they would find him a job before he was finished. That didn't happen. He finally got a job with Davis Transport in Missoula, Montana. They took him with no experienced. The put him on a bus over there from Seattle. He was sent with a trainer and had no problems. He got his training pay as promised. They did not tell him he would have to pay for his bus ticket. Ok, not too big a deal. Then he had to pay for his drug test. That I have never heard of from ANY company. They said it was because to may people have failed them. Then his trainer had to take a leave of absence for personal reasons. He then had to wait for another trainer. They sent him home on a bus. Didn't have to pay for that ticket. Then he met with another trainer who had only been with the company about 9 months. My husband was his first trainee. This guy was notthing but rude and didn't do his job at all. Then they were back in Missoula to pick up his truck. He was getting everything ready to go when he was told they had to let him go. His trainer gave him a bad rep. His first one did not. They wouldn't send him with another. Safety reasons is all they really told him (supposely drove to fast). His trainer was the one driving too fast. He was sent home on another bus and charged for that one which they told him he wouldn't. Come to find out, his brother-in-law had the same company do this to him a few months before and he had trucking experience. This whole mess screwed up our finances. We are still recovering. My husband has found a better company now.

#2UPDATE EX-employee responds

Sat, August 17, 2002

I worked for Davis Transport as a driver and a driver trainer for 4 years. I have always found them to be fair and upfront. I had many friends that also worked there that have never had a problem either-some with as much as 20 years experience and some straight out of school. I believe that if this person found the trainer to be rude and unable to do his job, he should have made his truck boss aware of his concerns long before his dismissal. As far as the costs that were accumulated as a result of this man's employment, the only way to resolve this from happening again (if indeed it did happen) is to make sure you get everything in writing before committing to anything. It would protect not only the employee, but the employer as well.
