I graduated from Davidson Academy in the late 90's. I attended the school from Kindergarted to 12th grade. My experiences were nightmares. The abuse began as early as second grade when a teacher, Mrs. Callies, tied my friend's hands together because she kept drawing during class. Even though that does not pertain to the current it still deserves mention.

Davidson Academy appears on the outside to be an outstanding Christian school that teaches morals as well as an education. On the inside that is far from the truth. Coach Alexander, a then Physics teacher currently a Bible teacher, used his class time to teach about how women should not be allowed as leaders or any high esteemed position that belonged to a man. His corrupt reasoning is that women are too emotional and could not handle the position as well as a man could. He is entitled to this viewpoint but should not "teach" it or represent such outlandish ideas during school. He would also speak in chapel about how God punishes women that chose such positions.

Racist teaching was another extention of this "righteous" schools corruption. African Americans were often a joke topic with both students and teachers in a classroom as long as there were not any noncaucasions present. My junior year the English teacher, Mrs. Westerman, admited openly during class that she did not think that African Americans were as smart or capible as white students. We were also taught in Bible class that Jewish people were not allowed into heaven until they converted to Christianity and would be sentenced to hell to burn and suffer.

Homosexual behavior was also putdown. My Spanish teacher, Mrs. Johnson, used an entire class time to discuss with the class the sexual orientation of another faculty member in a negative aspect. Many teachers taught that homosexuals were of the devil and should rightfully be killed.

It has been a few years since I have graduated from this school but the pain and emotional torment will always be with me. I do not know where to turn with reporting this school. It is a private school and is not subject to rules set by the schoolboard.
