I hired David J. Colman from Bloomington, IN to represent me for a legal issue. When I hired the P.O.S. he said the legal fees would be between $7500.00-12,500 and I'd have to pay him a 3750.00 retainer. I asked why the range. He said it depended on the amount of work he had to do. He told me it would be towards the bottom end of the range if I plead guilty and towards the top of the range if we fought it.

I plead guilty. He basically did no work on the case...as a matter of fact, I had to hire another lawyer to take care of some aspects of the case because Colman didn't follow up on some of his motions. I think he wasn't too worried about doing work on my case because he was in the process of getting disbarred.

At any rate, once I was sentenced he handed me a bill that stated his total fee was $10,000. I didn't pay the balance. I think I had paid him something close to $7000.00 at the time. He got his law license back a few years later and sued me for the balance plus interest and of course, he won. He lied his a*s off in court. I couldn't even get a lawyer to help me with that case. Go figure. I tried to get the Indiana Disciplinary Commission of the Supreme Court to investigate Colman's purjury but they wouldn't even call the Bloomington prosecutor that was involved in my case to verify if anything Colman was saying was true.

I've hired quite a few lawyers over the years and have never not paid up in full. Of course, the were honest about the fees they were going to charge.

Lawyers, nothing but a bunch of parasites!

I withdraw my original complaint. This has been settled and is water under the bridge. Dave, they gave me the Vette back because they couldn't make any money on it. Also, once you won the court settlement I paid you within a few months. We disagreed on the fee, the court settled it. I think that's how the system works. Elizabeth, the site will not allow me to remove the original complaint. This is all I can do.

The author of this complaint is easy to identify, because in my 30 plus years as a lawyer, I have only sued one client for a fee. It was a cocaine case, and dispited the fact that is was a sale on tape and as an attempted snitch, this guy had pissed off the local police, I managed to keep his sorry butt out of jail. This was a serous case, involving a lot of coke, and I think he even got his Corvette back. It was a lot of work with a full sentencing hearing, and a very good result for the client. I sued for the balance of the fee, and there was a full-blown trial, and I won. Finally, years latter, this dead-beat paid.
