Laura Rucker (maiden name Laura Esty) is a dishonest horse trainer in Elmira Oregon. She also does business in Veneta where her home is located but can often claim that she in Eugene. Her business is called Dare to Dream Sporthorses.

Laura routinely makes claims about horses she has purchased at auction when she has no way of verifying those claims. She is out to make a quick buck and seems to have no concern for the horses well being.

Laura also claims that she has studied under numerous famous trainers but when inquiries were made to those trainers they had no idea who she was (either by her married or maiden name).

Beware of doing business with her and while she occasionally has a nice horse or two make sure you get a vet check and ask throurough questions about history- including if you can contact past owners.

Not So Interested in Dare to Dream Sporthorses

I live just outside of Eugene and was interested in buying a horse for my property. Before I purchase a horse I wanted to find a trainer who could help teach me. After a couple of minutes of being online I found dare to dream sporthorses. While doing some further research I came across this site. I have to say that after reading what is on this website I will not be contacting Ms. Esty. Morgan *Gumdrop* is wrong. Saying that she has family and that is why she is late isn't an excuse. I have a family and if I was late to my place of business I would be fired. Anyone who pays for a service should expect nothing less than the person they are paying to be on time every time. Based on your own words Ms. Esty is late and that is extremely unprofessional. I am also confused as to whether you work for her or you know her on a personal level. Either way makes you biased. In my opinion no one is "dumb" for posting on this site. If it wasn't for people like"burnedbylaura" more people could end up spending their hard earned money for someone who can't show up on time(or at all).

Jonathan Crossno commented, "If you have no proof and all you have is dislike this is slander!" Slander is defamation by oral or spoken communication. You would have to prove libel (defamation by writing or pictures.) Not only would Ms. Esty not have a case because it has been proven by Morgan*gumdrop* to be true, but also was based on an individual experience with Ms. Esty. The statute of limitations is normally around one year from the time the comment was posted. Thanks to "burnedbylaura" I will be looking elsewhere.

O.k so I found this kinda of by accident and as I read it i found that wow some people are just dumb. I have grown up with Laura(Ms.Esty) and most of her students and I have helped her with a great deal of horses. Her horses no matter where they come from what their story is they turn out to be really awesome horses so whoever this "burned" person is you obviously don't know the same person I grew up with.

I have seen Laura (Ms.Esty) do some really out there stuff just to save a horse. Her horses are so loved and spoiled that you "burned" could never understand what she does just to keep her horses. How much time she puts into them to get them to be as awesome as they are. Like every trainer who has a family sometimes yes she is late sometimes she may forget she has a lesson but it is then the Students job to call her and ask her where she is.

Seeing these accusations that some people have put up here really make me sick, and i thank they people who are standing up for Laura(Ms.Esty). I have delt with something similar to this before and it was about me and my horses. If you "burned" think that Laura(Ms.Esty) is a bad trainer/horse owner then you should never be around a horse.

I read with dismay the comments by Burnedbylaura. I've known Laura Esty for over 10 years, and have never experienced any of the things the anonymous author claims.
That said, I'll go through her comments point by point, because the internet can do enormous damage to people who have no opportunity to defend themselves.
#1 - I've not known Laura to be dishonest. In fact, she's one of the most straight forward trainers I've ever worked with--takes criticism and/or correction well, tells you precisely what she can do or not do, and works incredibly hard to deliver what she promises.
#2 - Many of us who live around Eugene "claim" to live in Eugene because most people haven't heard of Veneta or Elmira, etc.
#3 - I'm not sure anyone can verify the information they receive when they buy a horse at an auction. People do the best they can to get the information they need, but horse farms are notoriously difficult to get information from because horse people tend to not be on the phones so much as they are in the barns. Laura provides the information she's given, which can easily be followed up on by potential buyers.
#4 - Related to #3, trainers are also very hard to get hold of. As well, because good trainers train hundreds of people, they can't always remember students they had in years past. That said, I was able to get hold of two trainers Laura was trained by, and both remembered her as a very hard-working students. Perhaps most convincingly of all, however, is Laura's skill as a teacher. No one without considerable training could teach as well as Laura does. You can't just pull that stuff out of the air. I encourage anyone who believes Burnedbylaura to watch Laura ride, watch her teach, or watch her train--and then judge for themselves.
#5 - Burnedbylaura, and others who write anonymous postings like this that end up high on Google's hit list, do enormous damage. Please think twice before you automatically believe one person's opinion. Just as she herself advises, before you make snap judgments about anything/anyone, make sure you find out the history behind the story, and get both sides. As we all know, everyone has their story.

I find it very discouraging that someone can hide behind a false name, throw around accusations and not have to take any personal responsibility for their statements. I've been in training with Laura Rucker since September 2007. I currently have one horse in training with her and take regular lessons. I have taken lessons from multiple trainers in this area and none of them can compare with Laura in their dedication to teach and share knowledge to the benefit of the horse and student. I have progressed more in a matter of weeks under Laura's direction that I have in years of training with other trainers. I cannot recommend her highly enough. Additionally, unlike some trainers, Laura is constantly furthering her education to the benefit of her students. Anyone who truly has had personal dealings with Laura knows that she is always willing to help...in fact that is often responsible for any delays. My horse receives excellent care and as I am familiar with all of Laura's horses, including the ones not kept at her training barn, I can vouch that they all receive regular vet care, foot care, quality hay, grain and supplements as needed. I'm really not sure where these accusations that she 'has no concern for the horses well being' are coming from. Rehabilitating horses that have had the misfortune to end up at an auction is not a crime, nor is placing them in better homes, it is a service to the horses, many of whom may have ended up in very poor situations. And lastly, to state that she 'occasionally has a nice horse or two' indicates a complete lack of familiarity with Laura's horses, her training program or any horse that she is marketing. Of her horses, every single one is of a high caliber, which is only emphasized by her effective training and conditioning program.

Where is your proof of claim? If you have no proof and all you have is personal dislike this is slander!

Let me begin by saying my name is Jonathan Crossno and I do not have to hide behind the guise of some false name to defend someone I know to be an upstanding business owner and lover of all animals. You sir/ma'am have the fear of being found out to be a slanderous coward and therefore have to make such defaming remarks from the shadows of deceit and dirty corners of dishonesty. Whoever you are you obviously have no proof of your claim and if you did you would not have to hide behind a false name. If you have proof bring it forward otherwise retract your statement as you have defamed Ms. Esty, her character and her business and I will make it my personal goal to find out who you are and see that you stand before a judge for defamation of character and slander. I have personally witnessed the interactions between Ms. Esty and her Horses and have not seen anything to lead me to believe that she is anything but caring and sympathetic to the needs of her stock. She knows each ones personality and needs to a level that exceeds anything I have ever witnessed in my time spent around the Horse/Polo community. She is comitted to her horses, clients and business on a level that superceeds anything else, short of her family, in her life. I will be purchasing horses for investment purposes in the coming future and when I make those purchases you can be assured that Ms. Esty will be the broker/trainer in those deals. I have complete and utter faith in her ability to pick a good horse and then maintain them. Dare to Dream Sport Horses is a business founded on the love of Horses and committed to the care and well being of those animals. Laura Esty is a wonderful person, trainer and horse owner.

Not always good experiences

While your experiences might have been good with Laura Rucker that is not always the case for everyone. Running a little late is a problem but so is completely failing to show up for lessons or passing them off to other less experienced staff. The fact that Laura sells horses she purchased at auction and knowingly misrepresents them to potential buyers is troubling. And yes I agree- always get a pre-purchase exam especially when dealing with Dare to Dream Sporthorses.

Besides a tendency to run a little late, I have had nothing but good experiences with Laura. She is a knowledgeable and talented rider/trainer. She provides excellent care to her horses. She is generous with her time and help around the barn. I find her to be direct and honest in her business dealings. And, dear "burned" I have seen video footage of her riding with Charles De Kumfy. I have also watched her lessons with Thomas Ritter. So yes, she has and continues to work with well known riders improving her own skills and passing it on to those of us who ride with her. Always get a pre purchase exam.
