Damark Aka Overstock.com debited my bank account for 104.99, said I had listened to an infomercial and did not cancel the membership after free trial period? Salt Lake City Utah
I was balancing my check books when I noticed a charge for 104.99 from someone called Cooking with Style - 18005668640. So I gave the 800 # a ring. Went through this completly automated system where they asked if a credit card had been charged and if we wanted to cancel the order. Followed through with the automated system and cancelled.
I was still mad as hell that someone had debited my account and the bank had allowed it all without my consent, again.. So I called the 800 # again, pretended to be buying something, got an actual person. Nicest person in the world asked for my name and she knew immediatly that I was not calling to buy something, but to cancel and yell.
She was nice as can be, kept yes ma'aming me, I did not yell at her, told her I just wanted an explanation and the name of the company. She told me that I had ordered something thru an infomercial on TV and I had been offered a free trial to Cooking with Style and when the free trial had ended I had not called and cancelled the service.
I have not ordered anything from Television in about 6months, atleast. I believe they do not want it known that if you happen to stop by their website they grab our consumer information and use it for their profit without you even knowing it until you notice that charge on your account.
It is the newest way to computer hack. And just think of the profits. I had one last week for 12.95 I called and immediatly the person knew I wanted a refund, and I got one the following day. Just keep checking your accounts. If you use the computer like I do for shopping, balancing accounts, etc. you better expect this to happen. I don't know what the solution to this problem is but aslong as my money is returned promptly for now, what can I do??
