Hi! I just went through the EXACT same scenerio, but with Ford Motor Credit, with someone buying a car in their name but with my Social Security number. It has now been corrected through the wonderful advice of an FBI agent I contacted. Here is the advice that was given to me, and it WORKED: 1. Write a letter to Cross Country Bank demanding that your Social Security number be removed form this fraudulent account, and all reports to the credit bureaus be corrected. Send it via Certified Mail, Return Receipt Requested. 2. Send copies of this letter to the 3 major credit bureaus (TransUnion, Equifax, Experion), also Certified, Return Recipet Requested. Include a cover letter with all the details you have on the account, including the account number and info on the person who perpetrated the fraud. Ask that it be investigated and corrected. 3. Send the same to the Social Security Administration and the IRS. 4.Call your local FBI field office and make a report. Give them the name and any other info you have on the person who opened this account. 5. Keep records of every phone call you make and every person you talk to, and what is said. I did this, as instructed by the FBI agent I spoke to, and the matter was corrected within 10 days. The Consumer laws are at work for you here...if you report this info to the credit bureaus, they must initiate an investigation within 30 days, forcing Cross Country Bank to verify that the Social Security number and the name on the account match. If they cannot (and obviously, they can't), then they MUST correct the information.
