I became a victim of identity theft and credit card fraud on May 22, 2018 when the credit card company failed to protect me as well as others from this kind of occurrence, the person who committed these crimes changed my information address/phone number and started charging on my credit card account after requesting a card saying it was stolen. I have closed my account after I learned on my own these crimes had been committed against me, The credit card company Credit One located in Las Vegas Nevada never contacted me to inform me of this theft and fraud against me. I believe this company is involved in this criminal activity against me and others because they allowed this to happen to many others not only myself, consumer reports has 2400-2500 complaints against them especially for identity theft and credit card fraud. The person who committed these crimes against me are from Homestead Florida and I got a screenshot of at least the address but the credit card company put my phone number back on my account before I could screenshot it for evidence, when you call the customer service line you only get people from India not here in the U.S. where the company is located. I was told that someone from America would call me to discuss this situation and they never called me and this is why I think the company is a fraud, I think this credit card company got all the right information to make them look legit only to scam people and now they are trying to make me responsible for the charges on my account.

People always have negative things to say

People always have negative comments or things to say to people who get their life stolen from them and are expected to reap the consequences of the hackers/thieves actions. Yet another person who thinks they know everything yet know nothing!! I do not use my credit cards online because of this when the Target stores/corporation became compromised by the hackers I stopped using my cards there and paying with cash only, I have other bank credit cards and not anyone of them have been compromised by hackers. I never used this credit card to order anything and hardly used it as I had it put away with the other credit cards I have and only used it as needed, but go ahead and blast away because it only shows you're just as small minded as all the hackers out there. If you couldn't find any other reports it's probably because you were not looking in the right place!! Only small minded people see with tunnel vision!!

You obviously have a very short sided utopian view of the security of your personal information, where you are sure that the only people who know your information is you and your credit card company. I guess I should just let you wallow in your own ignorance.  But since other people may come here and actually be willing to take some useful advice, let me address them.

I know people who have gone through 100's of thousands of dollars of "ID Theft" issues. I know people that have been "hacked" from the opposite side of the Country. The fact that you don't know anyone who lives in Florida doesn't mean a thing.  If you want to see how easy it is to get someone's information...look up videos on "Social Engineering Hackers". Combine that with how often you use your card on line, have things sent to your address, and looking at how much info you really put out there. If you do you will probably never post anything even remotely personal or buy anything on-line ever again.

If you are being truthful and know for a fact that it was one person who did all of this in one day, then he was obviously arrested..right? If he was arrested did he explain how he did it? What have the cops told you? I couldn't find any article on them being hacked by anyone, and your claim would probably be worth at least a mention on some news site. As for the 2400-2500 complaints. I didn't find those either. Not going to lie they do have a LOT of complaints, because they are a Sub-Prime credit card  for people who can not get credit through other more regular banks. But a majority of complaints I found were issues with the typical "deadbeats" who were complaining because they were comming after them for payments.

As I said, good luck and hope that this is the only incident you had to deal with.

You obviously have never had this happen to you and you obviously have no reading comprehension, I was not informed by the credit card company that my account had been compromised I found out through checking my account "AND" I did what I had to do to protect myself. I did dispute the charges and they are supposedly investigating it, I have other bank credit cards and this has it happened with them "AND" the only people who knew/know my information is the credit card company because I do not know anyone in Florida and that is where the hacker lives and had a card sent to them, also consumer reports has 2400-2500 complaints against them for the same thing that happened to me. There were several other people whose accounts were hacked/compromised on the exact same day by the same person in Florida, you need to stop acting like you know anything and mouthing off because you know nothing so keep your comments to yourself.

Why would this company call you to alert you of the fraud?  You may find this odd but people move and report their cards stolen all the time.  Someone had enough information about you and your account to convince them that they were you, so from their perspective there was no fraud to report.

If the first thing you did was close the account you over reacted just a bit.  The thing that matters is what they did AFTER you reported the fraud.  Did you formally dispute the charges? Did they approve or deny the dispute?  If they denied it..why? If they approved it then that is what SHOULD have happened.

If you have ID theft I would be quite concerned what else may be going on, because you don't know how much information this person has. If you haven't done so, you should file a police report. You then need to immediatly put a fraud alert on your credit reports(this is free).  This will basically lock your report making it much harder for anyone who is not you to obtain credit in your name.  Then review the reports and make sure that there is nothing on there that should not be. If you find things incorrect you need to dispute those ASAP.

Good Luck
