We puchased a set of patio furniture (manufactured by Courtyard Creations). My husband spent 2-3 hours assembling everything, and before I even had a chance to enjoy it--the table top shattered! If I did not see it I would not have belived it. My husband was putting the umbrella thorugh the hole, and when he adjusted it the table shattered into a million pieces! I'm glad my one year old was napping instead of being out side with us! We have not been able to reach the compnay (this happened on a Sat and they are not opne on the weekends apparently). I am shocked and very upset that this could happen! A table top should not shatter without cause. Even if they replace the top, I will be afraid to let my son near it!!

With all do respect to 'I am the law' and 'Qwerty777' yes Glass can apparently explode without warning or known cause. Hearing a loud crash today I raced downstairs thinking my GermShep/Lab had nocked something over. The dogs were inside with the door shut. Outside on my covered porch my six sided (Courtyard Creations) table lay with glass shattered, one or two small pieces falling as I arrived. Let the facts stand for themselves: Questions and Responses for the naysayers: How much load did you have on it? (the eqv of perhaps 2-3 plates) 1 kids smaller (pistol type) sized super soaker approx wt maybe 2lbs 1 small set of visegrips (used outside for another project) Was it in the sun? No it was on a screened in covered porch at a point which did not receive any direct sunlight. Was it misused? No, never and it's never been transported such as a home move. We're the original owners and have taken. Was it damaged in the box? No, I've had it for a couple years and there has been and was no visible damage. Did something fall on it? No nothing was touching it or in close proximity that could have caused a problem Did your dogs hit it? No they were fortunately inside and the door shut Was there anyone else home that could have done something? No, the backyard is also fenced; gate latched and nobody insight Damage like that couldn't occur without something else being damaged could it? Guess what, the glass end table within perhaps two feet of the table in question was fine. A large clock/therm/bari within 2 feet with a thiner glass front was not affected. Another point in reflection: For those that are unfamiliar; one of the car companies had a similar problem with safety glass 'mysteriously shattering' in rear windows. I know a family member that had it happen I believe twice. They were driving along and one of the rear windows exploded (no it was not a bullet, as there was no exit and the dealer had confirmed others had the same problem. That which we don't understand we sometimes critique. When you have time you might want to think about an apology to the original poster...but that's just a thought.

Glass doesn't just spontanously explode. It just doesn't. Something had to happen there. Maybe it was the heat, the child hitting on it with something, I don't know.... all I'm saying is that the child's pool shouldn't have been under there anyway as glass is always a potential danger. My advice here is to keep hounding the manufacturer and, if these tables are as defective as you say, go to the BBB and maybe even the news.

Maybe I'm reading your report wrong, but in it you claim: "I am concerned that the new tabletop will also be defective, but feel that it is a chance we have to take, as we have already invested our money in this patio set." however, then you go on to say: "I saw online somewhere today that they actually make a baby swing....sorry but I wouldn't even think of putting my 6 month old in any of their products!" So then why do you want a replacement so badly? If you truly believe the product was deffective, and claim others have had the same experience, why go through the bother and hassle again? This only makes me believe that the table was not defective and something at your home caused the glass to break, and now you want another for free. If youre going to go on slandering the company and its products saying that they endangered your child, don't ask for a replacement.

I see that people don't know how to read and see that I did in fact contact the mfg of the product that was bought after getting the info from Target Corp and they have yet to respond to me....guess I won't be hearing from them. Also, if you read the recall correctly it says that you don't have to actually sit on the arm of the chair for it to collapse, that just by applying any sort of pressure to the arm of the chair, as in using it to stand up or push yourself forward, would be applying pressure to the arm of the chair and cause it to collapse. But if you could read you would have noticed that's what they were saying. Of course no one with half a brain would sit on the arm of a folding chair! Also, if you search Courtyard Creations on this site you will see that other people have had the same thing happen to them....so yes, the glass table top did shatter into pieces for no reason at all! But hey maybe I should have had my 6 month old outside in his pool so that when it did happen, the pieces of glass that did go into his pool when it shattered would have hit him maybe in the eye.....bet you would have had something to say about my parenting skills then too huh! Maybe you should read before making comments.....

I'm sorry but I just can't see a big piece of glass spontaneously exploding without something first being done to it. You can't seriously expect me to believe that without first being damaged in some way, shape or form, this piece of glass just decided to shatter itself. That's a little farfetched. Now if you had taken it out of the box and it had a crack in it, and you set something on top of it, and it broke, then maybe thats feasible. There has to be more to this story though. And as for the chairs being recalled for collapsing from weight being put on the arm rests...who sits on an arm rest of a fricken folding chair and expects it to stay standing?? Maybe I read this recall info wrong or something, but what I got out of it was that you think its unsafe to be sold because some idiot decided to sit on the arm of some flimsy folding chair, and he fell over, and its the companies fault? That's insane. And since the table is discontinued, you need to contact the manufacturer. Target doesn't make that table, and doesn't have the glass to go on it.

Without a reciept, Target does not know when you purchased the product, and in other instances, whether or not you got it from Target. Target has a really nice system that allows them to look up reciepts if you paid with a check or a depit/credit card, which allows them to comfirm your date of purchase. Sometimes Target sells the same sets of patio furnature from year to year, without a reciept, they don't know when you bought it. Remember that a retail store sells products, and it is the role of the manufacturer to repair things. That being said, a store still needs to stand by its products which is why they gave you the necessary information about how to get ahold of the manufacturer.

Most of the products sold are warranted by the manufacturer, not the store, unless you bought an extended plan with them. They offered to take care of it as long as you paid by credit card, check, etc. What is your problem?
