If you or someone you know has Country Companies/Country Mutual Auto insurance with the keeper policy rider, you need to contact Tom Tracy at Country Companies to have him explain how this rider works. His phone number is 815-433-8928, you may have to call a couple of times as he is very busy.

I spent many years in the insurance business and I have never seen a rider so misunderstood or depending on how you look at it, mis-represented as the keeper policy rider. In essensce, Country Companies agents are either not trained or blatantly misleading clients in the presentation of this rider. All of the people I have spoken to and including myself, that carry this rider believe, that should the insured vehicle be wrecked and deemed totaled that we will receive a new car of the latest model year to replace it. In fact, Country Companies/Country Mutual has 3 different formulas to determine as to whether or not your car is replaced with a new model.

I was out and out lied to when I questioned my agent about the details of this rider. He stated that the only problem that I would have should my car be totaled would be in choosing the color of my new car. Well, my car was totaled and now they are saying that I will receive the estimate total, minus my deductible, plus the salvage value, about 8 thousand dollars less than the cost of a new vehicle. They did say that they would pay the taxes and fees for me when I bought my "new" car.

Please, for your own sake, if you have this rider on your auto policy, call Mr. Tracy to have him explain the "rules" for collecting on this rider.

My positive experience with Country Companies

I had a keeper policy with Country Companies when my car was totaled. I had a brand new car in three days. I was completely satisfied. In Illinois, the Illinois Division of Insurance is at: http://www.ins.state.il.us/Main/consumer.htm Click on: File a complaint. They will investigate insurance problems in the state of Illinois. There are complaint forms online for different types of insurance. I contacted them when I had problems getting a medical bill paid by my health insurance provider. A bill that had been outstanding for a year was paid in 30 days because of their intervention. I recommend contacting the Division of Insurance about this issue and see what they have to say about it. Good luck and let us know what they say.

Country Companies Wrongly Accused

I too have Country Companies as my insurance company. I too had an accident in which my car was totalled. I too had the Keeper Policy. Unlike the author of the original complaint, I had a wonderful experience with Country Companies and the Keeper Policy. I was given a brand new car and I did a collateral transfer, so I only have to pay off my original loan, not the amount of the new car. So, I feel I got a better deal than any other insurance company can offer. For the cost of my deductible, I was given a new car at no additional cost to me and at no additional payments. And my claims person was wonderful. She came to the dealership with me and made everything so smooth. BRAVO Country Companies!
