August of 2000, I made the decision to purchase a PDA for my boyfriend's birthday. We did some research and determined which model was most appropriate. It was a popular model, and I called around the greater eastside to locate a store which had it in stock. I called CompUSA in Kirkland and they confirmed it was in stock. I left for the store immediately following my phone call. When I arrived, the item I had inquired about was sitting on the front counter. I approached the front counter, pulled out my checkbook, and informed the clerk that I had just called and was here to purchase the item. I was informed that the product was being held for someone who had just left and was "thinking" about purchasing it. An electronice salesperson myself, I inquired as to if they had put money down to reserve the purchase. The answer was no. I requested an audience with a manager, and explained to him that I was ready to make the purchase immediately. I was informed that it would be "bad customer service" if they did not hold it for the other non-paying customer. He would be happy to order one from another location, or hold one at a nother location so I could drive to pick it up. I asked him if it seemed illogical to him that he sell me the one in stock, call the other customer and transfer one on for her. She obviously was not ready to buy. Unbelievably, I was totally denied. Obviously, CompUSA is not concerned about making a profit or true customer service.
