On 4/21/09 I purchased a Compaq (HP) laptop Computer at Best Buy. The product is warrantied for 1 year of parts and labor.
On approx 8/18/09, the product LCD screen malfunctioned and displayed only colored lines and "static". I contacted HP for warranty service which they agreed to perform and the product was shipped to them.
On 8/31/09, I was notified that HP will not honor the warranty and that the LCD has a "crack". I stated that there certainly was no crack in the LCD and that the laptop had left my home in perfect condition, no scratches whatsoever.
The HP rep got very sarcastic and testy about it. "Sir, the crack is internal, unless you are an expert, you would not be able to see it". The product was well cared for and never subjected to any adverse treatment. If the screen in fact did have
this mysterious invisible crack, it definitely wasn't caused by my use, since the laptop sat on a desktop undisturbed by anything for the 100 days of it's life. I can not believe a company can behave this way and essentially steal a customer's hard earned money.
Do yourself a favor and spend a little bit more and buy from an honest company, because HP certainly isn't one.
