I bought a doublewide in Oakwood Cove, which is a Clayton owned park in Dallas, TX. Vanderbilt Mortgage Co, a Clayton owner company, is the lender. Although I pay insurance premiums as part of my mortgage payment, I never received a policy. When my sons tools, valued at some $4000.00, were stolen from his truck, parked in our private space, the park manager gave me the phone number as I didn't even know the company's name. The ins. co. says "work related" tools are not covered. I would never have approved, accepted, or kept such a policy!

When the drains backed up last year, after the park dug a trench at the foot of my back steps (making my back door unusable) the park manager sent Roto-Rooter, who told me the open trench allowed the yard dirt to fill the drain.

Two weeks ago the sink drained very slow so I called the manager, thinking it would only get worse. I called daily and went to the office only to find it unmanned. Now I learn the manager is no longer here and a salesman is "running the place alone", as he said.

He has told me twice that he would send help and I have waited over a week, during which time the drains have backed-up in the master bathtub and overflowed from the toilet onto the carpeting!

If I could afford an attorney I would sue the park owners as I am sure the pressed wood flooring under the soaked carpeting is crumbling by now...not to mention over a dozen very expensive towels that have been ruined because they could be dried and reused to soak up the filth but they can't be washed without creating even more back-up. And no one seems to care except me!

I would think your local health department would have some interest in your situation. Seems like it'd be worth a try contacting them.
