My ex-wife opened an account in may of 1991, the same month that we filed for divorce. supposedly my name appears as a cosignor. no call was made to verify if i was actually willing to be liable for the account. since she was making about $6 per hour it must have been a small initial credit limit.

i never received a card. i never used a card. i was never sent a bill for this account. since i was not aware of its existence it does not appear in the list of assets and liabilities that we distributed at the time the judgemnt of divorce was made final. to the best of my knowledge this card has never been used for my own persaonal benefit.

sometime in 1998 i received a call from the card comapny asking me to make a payment as she was behind several months. i informed them of the above and asked that the account be closed. they could not do it as i was not the primary card holder.

about a year later i received blank checks from the credit card company to be used by my exwife but were sent to my address as taken from my credit report.

i went to the local office and inquired as to how someone who was in as bad financial shape as my exwife was could possibly be sent blank checks to extend her indebtedness even farther, no response. i again suggested that the account be closed. same response.

when she filed for bankruptcy, the nearly $10,000 debt showed up without warning on my credit report. no notice. nothing. now my attempt to purchase a new house in in doubt because " i have a huge debt that is in collections".

when exactly do 2 people who chose to end their marriage of 2 years finally stop being liable for the decisions of the other. it has been 12 years people. give me a break! just admit you do a lousy job of verifing the data received, never data when extending the limits of the account, and want everyone except yourselves to be responsible for the debts.

i sold my house and 27 acres of land to pay off $24000 dollars in credit debt that i was responsible for by dec on 1999. now i have someone elses debt to pay? what a crock!!!
