Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I had many problems with my Extended Warranty from Circuit City. When they refused service on my Broken DC Power Socket on a Compaq 1200 Laptop I didn't understand why. They claimed I broke it purposefully and that it would not be covered. I do not understand how that could be determined over the phone but somehow it was. I called my parents and after some hounding Zurich agreed to look at my computer.

Well it only took a week for them to return my still broken laptop. I am fairly certain that Circuit CIty and GE Zurich will not honor our agreement unless I use legal means. What I am going to do is tell everyone I know not to shop at Circuit City ever again. Sometimes it is hard for companies to do the right thing. I guess I always figured that Circuit City wanted my business. It is very disrespectful to be called a liar by a company that I just gave several thousand dollars to.

I just can't wait until someone starts a class action lawsuit against the misrepresentation of the Extended Warranty Plan offered by Circuit City.

On the day of purchase I was informed I could drop my computer and it would still be serviced. I was not given any list of failures that would not be covered prior to being denied coverage.

I will include the list of actions not covered:

"The following is a list of LCD Display failures that is not covered by your Extended Warranty Company:

1. Internally cracked LCD or LCD Tab seperation. Symptoms include vertical and/or horizontal lines or bars. These failures are mostly caused by dropping, bumping, pressure applied to the display, extreme temperature changes, or any other abuse to the unit.

2. LCD Glass Damage. This is normally due to end-user abuse. Glass damage can be seeen as cracks in the display or as geometric patterns or, 'spider webs' in the display.

3. Scratched Polarizers. These scratches normally occur due to end-user abuse--using a pen on the display, for example.

4. Bad Pixels. THese appear as small bright dots in the display and is usually caused by end-user abuse; stressing the display by flexing, twisting, or impact to the display.

Other failures that is not covered by your Extended Warranty Company:

1. Broken DC Power Socket. ALmost always happens when end-user doesn't remove ac/adapter plug from notebook and moves the notebook with the plug attached, or dropping unit. This will also cause a power surge if the unit is on at the time of impact.

2. Liquid Spill. THis is due to end-user abuse. THe liquid spilled onto the keyboard and getting into the unit will cause keyboard failure, power failure, electrical shorts, component corrosion, LCD Display, Floppy, CDROM. Hard Drive malfunctions, etc.

3. Environmental. This could include salt water or mist causing corrosion to components. COnstruction dust or heavy dust that will make mechanical parts, such as Floppy Drive, CDROM, and Hard Drive to fail. Extreme cold or hot temperature conditions that will cause the notebook to malfunction in many ways; from cracking the display glass to component explosion.

4.Power Surge or Spikes. Usually caused by using notebook during a lightening storm, abnormal electrical supply in a dwelling, applying incorrect power supply, physical modifications to unit, or impact of unit while power is attached.

5. Cosmetic Damage. ANy cracks, stress fractures, Broken LCD hinges, plastic doors or covers, or any other external related cosmetics.

6. Consumable Items. Main Battery packs, improper operation or incorrect maintenance to related item.

7. Attempted Repair. By any unauthorized party, or previous service center, and escalated notebook damage or modified or altered the original appearance of the unit.

8. Damaged Caused By Peripheral Equipment. This means any external devices attached; printer, mice, keyboard, scanners, etc., that is determined by the service center that the malfunction was caused by any of these items and is not part of the original Extended Warranty Agreement."

Don't worry folks if your problem didn't fall under those areas they left five lines at the botttom for Micro Medics to add any other feature to the list. I am disgusted that this list was not provided to me one the purchase date. I asked "Is this all?" And was told "yes." THis company needs to tell me how they determined over the phone that I had damaged my own unit.

They also must explain to me why their list of un-covered damages always states "usually due to end-user abuse" or "normaaly occur due to end-user abuse."

Finally they must explain to me, the consumer, how they can sell COMPLETE Hardware and POWER SURGE PROTECTION (Article 4 of 'Other Failures') and not fix problems related to Power Surges or fix Hardware.

This company clearly lied to me and I will fight them as long as I have to. They make millions off the American people through lying and misdirection.

Their profits are based on breaking the consumers will for quality and contractual service. This is the mark of bad business and I hope that Circuit City and General Electric both go under.

I will never again give a single cent of my money to either of those companies and I urge everyone else to do the same.

after having read the other stories about GE-Zurich and after my own experience when the sales person at Office Max sold me the contract, I got the impression that it is part of the sales training to tell customers that they can drop their unite, brake it, and get a new one throught the insurance. This was what the Office Max guy told me and I see some similarities in other cases.

I CAN UNDERSTAND WHY A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE UPSET AND WANT TO BRING THERE ANGER TO FORUMS LIKE THIS BUT LETS BE CLEAR AND VERY REAL . (1) WHEN YOU CALL CSP YOU ARE GETTING A COMPUTER TECHNICIAN , THIS IS NOT SOME CUSTOMER SERVICE GUY THERE TO MOLLIFY YOUR FEELINGS, HIS CONCERN IS FOR THE HARDWARE ON YOUR SYSTEM, AND ONLY THE HARDWARE, YOUR MP3, YOUR PICTURES, ALL THAT HE SEES AS POSSIBLE HINDRANCES TO THE SMOOTH PERFORMANCE OF YOUR SYSTEM. DO YOU ARGUE WITH YOUR PLUMBER OR AUTOMECHANIC, SAME THING AND THESE GUYS WORK WITH YOUR INSURANCE GUYS, ALL STATE OR STATE FARM FOR AUTO AND HOME , GE ZURICH AND OTHER UNDERWRITERS FOR YOUR COMPUTER . (2)REMEMBER WHEN YOU ARE IN THE STORES PURCHASING EXTENDED WARRANTIES , YOU ARE GETTING THEM FROM A SALESMAN , YOUR BEST DEFENSE IS TO ACTUALLY READ EXACTLY WHAT THE CONTRACT SAYS , THE CONTRACTS DO NOT COVER INCIDENTAL DAMAGES ,THE CONTRACTS DO NOT COVER MIS USE AND ABUSE , THE CONTRACTS DO NOT COVER ACTS OF GOD , THESE CONTRACTS COVER MANUFACTURES DEFECTS , , AND THATS IT , NOW IF YOU ARE COMFORTABLE WITH CHANGING YOUR HARDRIVE AND OTHER PARTS OF YOUR COMPUTER , THEN THIS CONTRACT MAY NOT BE FOR YOU BUT THE AVERAGE USER LIKES ,TO BE ABLE TO CALL US AND AFTER A BRIEF TROUBLE SHOOTING SESSION , NORMALLY 10 TO 20 MINUTES ,WE CAN SCHEDULE A TECHNICIAN TO COME OUT TO YOUR HOME THE TECHNICIAN MAY WANT TO FIX YOUR COMPUTER , BUT THE INSURANCE UNDERWRITER HAS TO OKAY IT , THATS THE BOTTOM LINE , IF THE UNDERWRITER DOESNT OK IT THE TECH DOESN'T GET PAID . THAT IS WHY WE HAV YOU GO THROUGH THESE STEPS , WHEN YOU CALL WE START FILLING OUT AN INSURANCE FORM BASED ON YOUR ANSWERS TO OUR QUESTIONS , WE HAVE A TOUGH TIME GETTING STUFF PASSEDBY OUR QC BEFORE IT GETS TO THE UNDERWRITERS FOR APPROVAL , ITS NOT OING TO GO BEFORE THEM UNLESS ITS AN AIRTIGHT CASE , AND WERE 99% PERCENT SURE WE'RE GOING TO GET PAID . I'M NOT GOING TO BLAME THE CIRCUIT CITY GUYS FOR MKING A LIVING BUT PEOPLE PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT IS THEIR JOB , HERES SOMETHING YOU DID NOT KNOW******* WHEN YOU BUY A COMPUTER YOU HAVE 1 FULL YEAR FROM THE PURCHASE DATE ONE OF OUR SERVICE CONTRACTS .
