I noticed a charge of 59.95 on my bank statement from CIC Credit Monitor Svc. I haven't ordered any credit monitoring (or so I thought) so I did a little research. I found all your complaints about this company, plus many more on other websites.

The common thread seems to be a charge of 79.95 weeks, months or even a year after ordering a "free" credit report. Well, I have never ordered a free credit report- I know nothing is really free. However, I have paid for credit reports online, so originally I thought this was how they got my info.

This scared me and I tried to remember where I ordered my credit report from- it was Yahoo Credit Services. I remember going with Yahoo because I had seen a lot of stuff on credit reports that seemed very disreputable. I felt Yahoo was trustworthy.

So I went back and re-read the fine print and Yahoo actually uses this company (CIC Credit Monitor Svc). So the service I thought I was paying Yahoo for I was actually paying them for. I also had forgotten that there was this free trial period and that is why I am only seeing the charge now- and that is why it threw me off so badly.

So, I am not actually getting ripped off, but after reading all the complaints here, I am very nervous that this company has my debit card number. I am also disappointed that Yahoo is partnered with a company that has an unsatisfactory rating with the BBB and that obviously utilized false advertising and questionable (if not illegal) tactics to charge consumers.

I wish all of you well and I hope that sometime in the near future we are able to come up with a way to deal with unscrupulous companies that take advantage of people like this. I also hope that I don't become one of this companies victims. I am going to attempt to cancel the service so that I have no further dealings with them and you can bet I will take the time to read the fine print in the future. I do alot of shopping and alot of business online and I can't afford to have my information in the hands of people like this.

You're right Yahoo has a full line up of links to scams like this one. The have over priced credit repair kits, and the information sold is already available to you cost free through your own State government, if not Federal. One of the NEW changes CIC Monitor has in store is that they are now generating more aliases, and setting up links through supposed consumer advocate sites. Change ALL of your account numbers or you will remain vulnerable for being billed again, as much as a FULL year later. Thank you for letting us know.
