Called for a free credit report last June 2003. Was not told this was a membership and we would be billed in June 2004. My wife called to check bank balance after June 1st 2004 and was told the bank account was overdrawn and we were charged an addtional fee for insufficent funds. When my wife got the bank statement she found the billing by CIC Credit Monitoring.

My wife called CIC on June 12th asking abou the billing. She told them the credit card used in 2003 was mine. Th rep said he could not talk to her about the billing due to privacy concerns.

I called June 13th and the rep asked for my SSN and my full name to verify my identity. She did not ask for my credit card number. I asked to cancel my account with them and she said it could not be done until June 1st 2005. I complained that CIC had not sent the promised up-dates of credit history. Also they had charged us for the membership fee without e-mail notification.

The representative said that if we had a filter on our e-mail account that might explain why we did not get their e-mail. I asked her to read off what e-mail address she had sent the notification to. She could not confirm our e-mail address as it was encrypted for our safety and said an e-mail had been sent to us notifiying us of the charges to be billed.

The company representative supposedly put in our file to cancel the memebership prior to Jun 1, 2005.

We have called our bank to cancel both of our Visa/Debit cards (mine and my wife's.)
