I came across a credit report website a couple of months ago saying that I could get a credit report for like 4 dollars. So I did it because I am only 20 and wanted to see how good my credit was to see if I would be able to get a loan for a car.

Then a couple of days ago I was checking out my account transactions online and saw a pending transaction of 79.95. I didn't remember any transaction of that amount however it didn't have the payee on it yet since it was pending so I couldn't do anything about it.

Then just today which is January 8, 2004 I checked online and the transaction finally cleared on January 7, 2004 and said CIC Credit Monitor Svc. I didn't recognize the name so I typed it in Yahoo and came up with a bunch of headlines that said "CIC Credit Monitor Service ripoff." Tomorrow I am going to call my bank.

This has been a major problem for many. Through no fault of their own, your bank might not be aware of the situation. Have them access this site or at the least give them a copy of your Rip-off Report. The problem is that when you signed on for a free Credit Report, you enrolled into their Credit card Security Monitoring program. IF you do not cancel that membership, within a specific time frame, then you might not get a refund. You will also be billed $79.95 annually. It sounds like you're still in the safe zone-6 month time frame. Getting that refund should not be a problem. Call 1-888-888-8553, and be sure to cancel your membership, along with collecting your refund. Give your bank this phone number. They can call the number for themselves. The CIC Monitor website is consumerinfo.com, as you have stated in your contact information. The bank staff might consider visiting their site as well, to understand how this "Free" credit report is potentially missleading. Don't take to long on collecting that refund, and for peace of mind, change your account number. You also need to make it clear to your bank or credit card, that CIC Monitor is not authorized to charge any bill to your account. Get back to us if that number doesn't work for you. Hope this helps.
