Like many others here, I was billed $79.95 for a credit monitoring service. A bit different from other postings here, I was to receive one year FREE as the result of a Microsoft Money 2004 software upgrade.

Upon learning of the $79.95 charge (under the name CIC Credit Monitor SVC), I called the toll-free number (1-877-513-4175) to inquire about the charge. They asked for my cc# and SS#, but after refusing to share them, were able to access my account with only first and last name. They referred me to Credit Expert.com and indicated they were the ones who had the account with me.

I contacted Credit Expert.com by calling their toll-free number (1-866-673-0140) and verified my "FREE" account. They indicated that they could tell that it came from MS Money offer and that I should not have been billed anything. Thay advised me to fax a copy of my bank statement showing the charge along with the customer # they supplied me with. They also said that I would have to fax a copy of my drivers license for security reasons- it seems odd to ask for this since they obviously have enough of my information to charge my card $79.95.

I told them I refused to send my drivers license with personal information to a fax number that I have no idea who is getting it or where. They refused to share a physical mailing address with me, so I told them that I would file a dispute with my bank and involve attorneys and/or the BBB with this effort.

Do not share your personal information with these people...there is this thing called identity theft and it is set-ups like these that people unsuspectingly share more information with people in an attempt to fix a problem.

I will get my $79.95 back and be more cautious in the future.
