I ordered freshly-harvested fungi from him over the phone. He took my credit card and billed me before shipping the fungi to me. They were under the weight I ordered, although I was billed for the full weight and shipping. Included in the box were several pages of old glossy magazines, a used plastic bag and a cigarette butt! The fungi had cobwebs and looked very old and spent. I called him, and he said he would think about it. I didn't hear from him for several weeks, and he refused to pick up my calls. My emails to him were ignored. I'd never deal with him again or recommend anybody to buy anything from him.

I try to insure the best possible quality mushrooms, including overnight delivery where available. The fresh Morel Mushroom page has a disclaimer, here is the link: http://www.morelmushroomhunting.com/freshdisclaimer.htm

Here is what it says:

Fresh morels are highly perishable. If you have placed an order please keep an eye out for your package. Packages should not be left outside when temperatures exceed 70 degrees. If no one is home your package will be left. Your work place is a great place to have your order shipped to if you have a P.O. Box or feel your package will be unsafe dropped at home. We have little control over the amount of morels that are picked and shipped in a days time. Mother Nature is in control and can be unpredictable. It would be nearly impossible for us to keep in touch with everyone on shipment date. Just leave a note in the "Instruction To Seller Area" when checking out if you have special delivery needs and we will try our best to accommodate. Expect your order to be delivered on Tuesday -Friday. Saturday delivery is available with an additional shipping fee. Please advise for Saturday delivery. An email will be sent a minimum of 12 hours prior to shipment. One out of a hundred emails we receive are incorrect so please double check when submitting. It is important to leave a phone number to get a hold of you.   Since we are dealing with a highly perishable product a phone/cell number is important. Orders ship in the order they have been received. If you pay early in the year, expect to be one of the first shipments and so on. Morels may lose up to a tenth of a pound per pound due to shrinkage during shipment. This weight will be regained when cleaned with water. Your morels may be slightly dry to touch which is normal. Midwest morels range from one to seven inches tall and can be gray, white, yellow, or brown in color. Morels do come from the woods so don't be alarmed if you find some ants or larvae munching on the inside of a morel. You can soak in salt water for no more than 30 minutes prior to using them. Store them in a brown paper bag in the refrigerator, not in plastic! Clean, cook, and enjoy.

If you shipment arrives damaged, please take lots of pictures, and email to me. It takes a very long time to get the insurance reimbursement, and I cannot replace the order until I do, or you pay again, and then I will mail you your original refund when I get from the insurance.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There were no photos taken and sent to me to file an insurance claim. I have no control over a box of mushrooms once it leaves my hands. Perishable is written on the box, but that doesn't mean a postal carrier didn't leave it in the hot sun on a loading dock. Loss of weight oftern occurs as the box is vented and they may dry somewhat, but as the disclaimer states, when you rinse them off, they will freshen back up and gain any weight lost. This must be an order from a previous year, as I checked and there were no shipments sent to this location in 2015, so it doesn't make sense that I am just now seeing this show up, and have had no contact with this customer emails, voicemails, or anything else anytime in recent memory (like over a year ago?) As for the cob webs- may have been a small spider inside the hollow mushroom, and again the disclaimer mentions these came from the woods, and may have bugs. I  use shredded newspapers to pack the mushrooms in, which is a good way to keep them freshest.
