Chase Bank -Credit Card services sent me an e-mail in July-2009 stating I had a past due pymt. I have never received an e-mail from Chase regarding my account or should I say previous account (2007).

I paid off my account in December of 2007, they called me in November of 2008 to report fraud activity on my account? that I thought did not exist. I explained to them I had closed out my account and had not made any purchases to my account, I'm sure thats what prompted the call from them in the first place. They agreed that I had not had any activity on my account and stated it was not closed. I then told them I did not use the card, did not want a new card and had closed the account. I received a new card 2 weeks later, never activating or using the card, I called them again to notify them I did not want this card and I was not interested in any more cards or offers from Chase! Now, we fast forward almost 12 months later, no statements, no e-mails, no account info from Chase. I am done with them & have no ties what so ever! Well, they send me an e-mail which I can't open to any account information, saying my account (which does not exist anymore) is past due. I find an old statement with a phone number on it and call a customer rep. They state that I still have an account and a $40.00 annual fee was added in May-2009 and was now delinquent with $33.00 in interest and late fees applied. I spoke tirelessy with 4 reps which said they would not or could not help me. After 11 years of never missing a pymt and closing my account, this practice by Chase was illegal and very bad business practice. I never recieved any notification by regular mail or e-mail about any balance or having an active account with Chase. They have now reported a delinquency to the credit bureau and I believe I have a solid lawsuit for damages. I have a credit score of 720, but I'm sure this will put a ding on my report that will take legal action or many months to resolve. Very upsetting!

money owed on an account that was closed and no notification, until there was delinquency accrued to an account they know had no activity & was closed for several months! How can they get away with this? Why would they do this to honest people that were good customers?
