Centre Flavie-Laurent Inc. Flavie-Laurent DISCRIMINATES against donations from government housing Winnipeg Manitoba
Was very displeased to learn that Flavie-Laurent rejected my donation of great condition furniture, dishes and children's clothing because it came from a Winnipeg Housing residence.
I was told over the phone they have a policy against accepting donations from Manitoba Housing and Winnipeg Housing.
I was told that the policy was created because the donation coming from people living in housing were typically "garbage" and that CFL did not have the manpower to sift through the things that "no one wants".
I told them everything came from a bug / smoke free home but these facts didn't sway them. I explained the reason for my contribution was because my family is relocating out of provonce and that there was nothing wrong with the items.
I explained that our vehicle simply was not big enough to haul large pieces of furniture and I was told that they would not take them or schedule a pick up.
I asked why a non-profit organization who claims to help stengthen the needy community would discriminate againt people wanting to donate from a housing home and the manager told me himself that he didn't understand the policy but that he needed to honour it.
I am sad to learn that this organization is not in fact true to their word and that they discriminate againt low income families, which are the very people they claim to target "helping".
It is my hope that the right person from this organization becomes aware of this outrageous misconduct and the spark change in an archeic form of busniess.
I hope people who look into donating to this organization think twice before dropping off their goods here because these people are hippocrites and falsely claim to help those in need.
I would urge you to donate to real organizations making a true difference within the community and not based on discriminatory selection.

Centre Flavie-Laurent provides free furniture, household items. appliances, clothes, etc. to between 300 and 500 families in need on a weekly basis. We accept donations from all sources but must make discretionary decisions in refusing donations coming from certain places, such as Manitoba Housing complexes, as there have been just too many issues forthcoming when we have done so in the past. This decision is based on maintaining the safety and well being of the 35,000 families we serve. In other words, we cannot accept goods that may jeopardize our very mission to assist the impoverished. Although we realize that many, and probably most, people living in MB Housing apartments are without issues, we are unfortunately just not able to take the risks involved with gambling on this question. We trust that all will understand the challenges we face in our work with the poor and the need we have to be as cautious as possible in getting it done.
