Four years ago I bought a cell phone from Sprint. I paid 100 dollars for the phone. I had the phone turned off without my consent, only to find out Sprint thought I never paid the down payment and had the phone turned on for free. Another 150 dollars was charged to me for deactivation without any warning.

I have been getting harrasing phone calls from C.C.A. asking for the money which comes to approximately 350 dollars. I am willing to pay what I actually do owe which is about 50-75 dollars but C.C.A. and Sprint have been uncooperative and I have been accused of making the whole thing up, the C.C.A. representatives have been rude and will not stop calling. Sprint does not have or does not claim to have on record what the money is owed exactly for.

The phone calls have been more frequent in the past month and I want to put this behind me.

When my contract ended with Verizon I switched to Alltel. Verizon did not send me a final bill, instead they immediately sent my account into collections with CCA. When I asked the man who called me what agency he was with he continually repeated he "represented" Verizon, trying to give me the impression he was actually an employee of Verizon. He stated that we could settle the account today to avoid going to court tomorrow. After I continued to question him I finally got the truth, he was a collection agent from CCA. I am a private investigator (www.mypiservice.com) who deals in harrassing debt collections and the first thing I did was write a cease and desist letter. I got a phone call two days after mailing the letter that I sent it to the wrong CCA. Robert, the owner, of California Check Association (CCA) in Redding California was kind enough to call me to let me know that they have not been the collection agency calling me. The collection agency I needed to contact was the Collection Company of America (CCA) out of Las Vegas. Robert was very kind and I found it especially thoughtful of him to have the courtesy of calling me personally to let me know that my letter had not gotten to the correct people--or I would be pulling my hair out trying to make the right CCA stop harrassing me. I just wanted to clarify that on the Rip Off Report make sure you are dealing with the correct CCA collection agency and make sure you send your letters to the correct agency. It would also be helpful to include a phone number you can be contacted at--I mean it's not like the collection agency doesn't already have it--right?

CCA Collection Agency in Redding CA is a local collection Agency. We have been in business since 1986 and we do not handle the following bills: ANY AND ALL CELL PHONE BILLS. Such as Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, etc. We wish we could handle these since the CCA who does handle those bils is VERY RUDE. That CCA stands for Collection Company of America. That is not us. Our employees are required to have a high degree of compassion and courtesy. If you would like to talk to us we can be contacted at 1-888-991-4222 speak to Robert the owner.
