This resume building site had the usual fine print neatly tucked away within their disclaimers and usage agreements that I had to actually look for because they weren't bold and honest enough to put it on the front page where it should be. After reading the fine, obscured print I agreed to their terms, knowing full well that this was a subscription and I would have to fight tooth and nail to unsubscribe, but I needed the service and accepted the risk. Sure enough, as stated in the policy, the first 7 days were billed at a discount rate of something like $4.95 and then I was billed $34.95 for the next 30 days, all of which I was fine with. Well, wouldn't you know it, I no longer needed their resume building service BUT forgot to cancel my subscription after the 30 day period so I was rightfully billed another monthly charge of $34.95. The VISA credit fraud prevention company called me on the day that CareerLive billed me for the additional second month and told me that this resume building company was billing me the $34.95. That's how I "remembered" that I needed to cancel the subscription. I immediately emailed this organization and cancelled my subscription via the email correspondence and if you read in the fine pint, email cancellation is one of the accepted ways that they will agree to cancel your subscription. So, after begrudgingly accepting the $34.95 charge due to my own negligence, I then contacted my credit union to find out if simply cancelling this subscription was adequate enough to prevent further monthly charges and was told that the only way to guarantee that I would never be charged again was to cancel my credit card... so I did. But wait.. lo and behold, between the time I emailed the CareerLive organization to cancel my subscription and the few hours later when I got confirmation from them that my subscription was cancelled, I was billed ANOTHER $34.95. Two charges of $34.95 on the same day and within hours of each other. Here is my conclusion. Once someone on their end found out that the VISA card was cancelled and they wouldn't be able to ever bill me again, they were somehow able to duplicate their $34.94 charge from earlier in the day and draw that money twice from my account before the credit card became inactive. It's only $35 bucks and if I never see it again, I can live with that, but the right thing to do is refund the additional charge; I cancelled my subscription exactly according to the rules. Nowhere does it say in the fine print that I will be billed again upon cancellation of my subscription. AND, here's the kicker. Because I have cancelled the VISA card, there is no possible way to reimburse the card. How's that for savvy? Someone in the billing department on their end knew exactly what they were doing. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH CAREERLIVE!! There are several other reputable resume building sites out there who bill honestly and quite frankly, provide much better service and a much better product.
