CAPITAL ONE BANK USA NA PO BOX 30281 SALT LAKE CITY, UT 84130 (800) 955-7070 This company is on my credit report for TransUnion and Experian through Credit Karma when I first signed up with credit, about a year ago! However only today did I realize I need to do something about it, copy the information posted it in my browser and realized it's not just me that this company has done this too! I have never had a card for this company and they are stating that I have an open balance and open account since 2003 for the balance of $5,100 and it says that I am up to date on all my payments??? I've never had a card ever through this company nor have I ever had a car that has had that large of a credit amount lol In all seriousness, this is a very huge deal considering these people are messing with so many people's credit scores including my own, and I'm trying to move out all on my own at 33 and I'm trying to build my credit and I find something out like this! I don't understand why this hasn't been taken care of by our government because there are endless reports of this exact company on so many people's credit reports online! Please help find this out find who this is and tell me how I can get this off of my credit report! Thank you so much for your time have a great holiday :-)

Gees, you are acting like you are being accused of Murder...you have a possible mistake on your credit report that (hopefully) is really easy to fix as long as you don't go off of the deep end.

First of all, there is no reason for a company to "screw" with your credit by putting a POSTIVE credit listing on your report, there is also not some personal vendetta against you by them.  You are just not that special.  However, if it is an invalid listing the Fair Credit Reporting Act(FCRA) gives you the right to dispute items on your credit report and have it removed.  But YOU must do that, as until you dispute it no one has any idea if it is valid or not.

It is going to be one of a couple of things.

1) You actually did apply for and have this credit card, you just aren't realizing it is with Capital One.  Capital One, like many banks actually manage many "store branded" cards.  So if you have ever had credit at a Department Store, through your Doctor/Dentist, or even things such as a Gym Membership..it may be managed by Capital One.

2) They made a mistake and someone somewhere down the line mis-typed something causing it to show up on your credit report instead of another person's.

3) You are a victim of Identity Theft

Now as to what to do.

For 1 - Nothing...it is vaid and just needs understanding on your part.

For 2 - Follow the instructions on how to dispute it with the Credit Reporting Agencies, Credit Karma has instructions on how to do this.

For 3 - Do the same thing as you did in 2 but in addition to that go down to your local police station and file an Identity Theft Report.  You will need that so you can put a Fraud Alert on your credit report.  This will keep anyone else from opening an account in your name until it can be proven it is you requesting it.

I would start with 2 and not "assume" it is Identity Theft until you get the response back as to your dispute.  If they say they show you did sign up for it, then you will probably need to start working on the Identity Theft perspective.
