British Sky Broadcasting Ltd RUPERT MURDOCH POCKETS MILLIONS OF DOLLARS FROM UK CITIZENS
Rupert Murdoch's strangle hold on UK digital television now extends to nearly 6 million viewers. Market share has been bought by low cost installation of set top digi-boxes. These are only available from Murdoch's British Sky Broadcasting. In the bid to gain market share BSkyB is in hock to the tune of losing $800 million this year (2001) alone.
The only way Sky can recoup its losses from its millions of hapless subscribers is by consistent over billing.
The scam is very simple and totally controlled via satellite fed information. On signing up to the digital satellite service the punter is given a choice of channels; the Premium Service is $54 per month but the basic Family pack is a more modest $24 per month. Unless you are a complete couch spud most families opt for the $24 pack of about 30 channels plus a sport of film channel. Sneekily Sky designate the Premium pack 01 and the Family pack 1 (kind of tricky one may think).
The viwers sit back to enjoy, then to find they have access to dozens of premium cost channels; mana from the heavens. The catch is that Murdoch's Sky provides these extra channels even though they are not contracted. Neither do they turn them off when requested. The hapless subscriber thinks he has freebie viewing until the first invoice arrives; charging for all the costly premium channels.
The subscriber is brow beaten and cajolled by threat of legal action to settle the bill. He then thinks the whole affair is over and will then get exactly what was contracted. But BSkyB pull the same scam again the next month. Then they have the bare faced cheek to offer a discount if you agree to let BSkyB debit your bank account directly. The UK regulators are scared witless by Murdoch and will not take any action meanwhile News International, BSkyB and Murdoch rip off the little man to finance global media control.
