I ordered a $1700 gown from the Las Vegas store. I am nearly 6ft tall and was assured that the gown could be ordered with my hollow to hem measurements so the waist would fit properly.

I live in Ohio and was not able to try the dress on before it was shipped to me, however I was assured again over the phone that it had been made with my hollow to hem measurements. The dress came in with only extra length added to the bottom. The waist of the dress falls 2 inches short of my natural waist line. I look like I have a tiny body and extremely long legs.

After the dress was shipped to me the manager in Las Vegas, Kate Barrett, told me that the dress was not available in hollow to hem. I was told that it was available and had been ordered that way on 3 different occasions.

I have since checked with other outlets that carry the couture line of Demetrios and they tell me that I can order the dress hollow to hem. Kate Barrett will not reorder the dress properly or allow me to return it. Now what am I supposed to do with a $1700 dress that cannot be altered?

My fianc got her bride-maids dresses at the salon in MACYS in Manhasset NY. They were told that they would be ready in 3-3 1/2 months (which is why we purchased them there. Would give us plenty of time for mistakes). We started to call in the little over 3 month time and were told "call back next week, they will be in". So we called and were told the same thing. Upon the 4 month mark, and were told "They will be in on Friday. Call then." The next week, the same thing. On the 5th month, we started to ask for the manager and I started calling. I was in retail for five years and now I am in the garment industry. I was told by the manager Teresa, that she spoke to the manufacturer and they would be in Friday. I said I have been told that 20 times, what happens when next Friday, they don't arrive? She said "Oh no sir, I spoke directly to the manufacturer and I can ashore you that they will be in!" Needless to say, they were not. We were again told that they spoke to the manufacturer and they would be in Friday. I said I wanted to speak with the manager again. I was yelled at that she would tell me the same thing. I said I only wanted to speak with her. When she got on the phone, I asked for the district manager. I was given his number and then Teresa started to try to "explain" to me what was going on. I asked HOW, MACYS could not know what they were getting in (we were told they had to send someone to receiving to "see" if it was there)? That is when I found out that this had NOTHING to do with MACYS but DIMITRIOS BRIDAL. She tried to throw industry terms (like I don't know what she is talking about) of what was happening. SHE WAS TALKING IN CIRCLES. I called the district manager (ALEX CATRONE) and left a message. After not receiving a phone call back, I called the corporate office and asked to speak with SOMEONE! I was told there was no one else. I guess he is IT, the big cheese (remember this later). Five minutes later, Teresa calls trying again to talk in circles. I told her I was done speaking to that level of management and only wanted Alex. Alex called a little later. Before he could say anything, I let him know that I was in the business and don't try to BS me. He started to stutter. Yes, a DM, Big cheese started to stutter. He said that he was sorry and was going to give something off on the dresses and free alterations. I said that I did not trust them with the alterations, and would be taking the elsewhere. He said that was up to me, but wanted to make it up to the girls and say sorry. There was not much else he could do. He said he was calling the manufacturer to have the dresses overnighted (that means they were not on the loading dock, like I was told earlier in the day). He would call me on Monday when they arrived. I said to call my work and gave him the name and phone number of my business. He said "Oh, your in midtown?" I said "Yes, I told you I was in the garment industry, a few blocks from your office!". "Oh, so you know how it is!" "Yea, don't try to BS me!" I'll call you Monday." A few minutes later, Teresa called with a tracking number. A few hours later one of the brides-maids (who knew nothing of me calling) called to see if the dresses were in. She was told "Yes, I have them in my hands now. Looking right at them." WHAT DRESSES ARE THOSE????" Do they have two sets of dresses now? One that WAS downstairs, and one that is now being shipped? The dresses arrived and Teresa called. I told her about the 2nd dresses and she said "Oh well then you can choose which you want." Really? That's how you run things? Needless to say, when the girls went to pick up the dresses and said about the free alterations, they were told "NOPE!" After calling Alex back, he told me he never said that. There was nothing more he could do, the dresses were there. He gave us 20% off the dresses. First, we got 15% off for paying IN FULL when we ordered the dresses (stupid on our part), so you only gave us 5%. 5% really???? That came out to $8.00. $8.00 for this aggravation? He said he can't budge at all. Then they were supposed to ship a dress to someone out of state (overnight), and that still is not there (6 days so far). If you are thinking about using them, DO NOT!!!!

The bridal shop could have prevented this

#6Consumer Suggestion

Thu, August 19, 2004

Hi there! As a former employee of a bridal shop that was known for doing alot of bad business, this really irks me. It sounds to me like an employee hangup (such as someone didn't order it correctly) or possibly a simple act of miscommunication with the designer at the time of ordering. Since most orders are placed over the internet now, there is the possiblilty of miscomunication. This could have been an issue of the manufacturer not following direction, in which case, the bridal shop COULD have called the company...most bridal manufacturers are more than willing to rectify these situations...so the fact that they refuse to work with you and LIED to you tells me that most likely it was one of THIER employees that caused this mess. If you still have the gown, it is very possible to sell it to a Bridal Resale shop. The fact that it is new and made to fit taller brides will make it highly desirable. (Not to mention the prestigious Demetrios name) ....these shops will pay approximately 40% of the retail value. I know this probably comes a little late but I hope that helps. (If you were near me I'd buy it from you because I'm opening a bridal resale shop in my area! :) Good luck!

As a previous employee of Brides by Demetrios I realize how frustrating and frightening it can be when wedding orders are not carried out correctly and on time! Much stress can be avoided by making sure you communicate your every need and that it is understood by everyone. Double checking always helps to prevent misunderstandings! Brides by Demetrios is an excellent company. I know that the Demetrios family is very concerned about all of their customers and will go out of their way to rectify any unpleasant situation if you just let them know how they can help you.

Sue in small claims and /or call the Mfg. they will probably be able to help you. More than likely the store owner ordered the wrong item and now can not send it back. With your efforts the maker may take it back and send you the correct dress. I have heard of that Brand and I think the dresses are made offshore. Always buy American when buying a Bridal gown. There are so many ways to mess up a wedding but the dress delivery it is the most common.
