Beaverton Hills increased the service fee by 30%, without providing any increased level of service, claiming that retrospectively, services had been provided without being charged. This is patently untrue. The resident had been living in the facility for over two years, and did not require any unusual service beyond what would be considered basic to 'assisted' living - ie, bathing, help dressing. The resident doesn't even require use of their med. dispensing staff.

At the same time, not only care-givers, but exec directors are revolving door employees - care worker staff has been reduced, food service routinely runs out of basic food items, such as: bread, ice cream, sugar, and milk. Complaints and demands to improve the situation are met at best by apologetic apathy or arrogance.

Specific examples of failure to provide services required and paid for: having to wait for over 20 minutes for bathroom assistance; having to wait to over an hour for morning assistance upon rising; having to wait over an hour to be put to bed in the evening. How often has this happened? Often enough to have a meeting with the state ombudsman and a smug corporate exec.

The result, since the state is a paper tiger in this environment, is that residents are victims of extortion and theft of service, and being a vulnerable population, they either submit to these circumstances, or move. That pressure in itself, in my opinion, amounts to elder abuse.

If you are considering assisted living for anyone you care about - run, do not walk, in the opposite direction of this facility.

What Bonaventure residents really think

The staff and residents at Bonaventure make the building a friendly and inviting place to be.

When I was shopping around for a community to call home, Bonaventure was the most accommodating place in town.  The variety of activities and things offered here made it an easy decision for me.  I especially love the cookies made fresh twice daily.

The residents and staff I have met make this community my favorite, I am a very social person and have found many long lasting friends here.

I am proud to call it my home.
