like everyone else was drawn to the claim of lowest prices, etc. Purchased a (well known brand name) bagless vaccuum cleaner, took it home and it did not work. There was power, but no suction, essentially useless. Tried on both carpet and flooring with the same results.

Due to work schedule was not able to attempt a return for 3-days. I had all receipts, original carton/box etc. Item was repackaged as received and I waited in the return line for over 30 minutes.

When dealing with the returns clerk there was no obvious problem, she advised me that the package would need to be inspected prior to completing the return. Here is where it got real interesting.

The "inspector" advised me the serial numbers of the vaccuum cleaner did not match the serial numbers printed on the box, so therfore I must be trying to "pull a fast one." I expressed my disbelief at his statement and he added that he has had numerous experiences with "people" making a new purchase and then trying to return a "used" similar or "older" item in order to get their money back and walk off with a "free" item at Best Buy's expense.

Needless to say I was angry, I asked to see the store manager. A few moments later he returned to advise me the best he could do was an exchange for exactly the same vaccuum cleaner. Since I had been told a refund was out of the question, I agreed to the exchange.

As another of the same cleaner was brought out to me, I asked the "inspector" how I was going to prevent this same thing from happening tomorrow when I brought this one back to him as well, because it is obviously a poorly designed cleaner (even if it was a well known brand name). He replied that we would open the unit before completing the exchange and match the serial numbers on the cleaner to the carton.

As I stood at the return/exchange counter, the vaccuum cleaner was brought out however "Mr. Inspector" was no where to be found. I explained to the clerk that the item was to be opened here and a serial number match was to be verified prior to my departure. The look on the clerk face when she opend the box and tried to match the numbers was priceless. She had discovered what I already knew, that the numbers on the cleaner did not match the numbers on the box.

I was so angry now that I demanded she find the "inspector" and get him over here and tell him I wanted a FULL REFUND immediately, as well as an apology for his nasty implication of my character. She did find him, he would not face me though, just advised her to issue the return/refund receipt. I never did see a store manager, it is obvious they do not care how customers are treated. Needless to say I do not EVER shop there, neither does my family, friends, friends of friends, etc. I recommend to you not to shop there either! Beware!

The problem I keep running into is the employees look at me like I am an alien. I was in there three days ago and asked for a particular product, which is not an unusual item. Once again the employee looked like I was an alien from another planet. I just threw my hands up in frustration. I ended up finding the product on an end cap not even in the department it should have been in. Their lack of knowledge of their own store astounds me let alone understanding the product itself!

I filed a report today about Best Buy, and although the circumstances are completely different, the treatment I received from the staff was almost exactly the same. Rude, inexcusable, and ignorant treatment of customers must be the norm. At least they didn't lie to you and steal $200 like they did to me. If you can avoid it, DO NOT SHOP AT BEST BUY, and we'll teach them a lesson about customer service, if we can.
