Believer's Life Christian Academy School in Harvey, La is a rip off!

At first I was impressed by hearing things from the pastor from "bought" air-time, on the local Christian FM station. So, years later, when my husband and I were financially able, we sent my daughter to this school, 2003-2004 school year. Well, after attending some services at the church, I really got hooked. They jammed! This church had the best music and rock band! But there was some mumbo, jumbo talking going on from some of the people there. You know, these who are supposed to be able to talk in tongues. Yet no one understands, nor interprets-as the Bible says should be done.

If you have the gift, pray that you can understand it and tell others what you're saying. This scared my daughter and made my son look at them like they're crazy!, then me for taking him there. I would try not to laugh, but then it got annoying as I tried to pray. These people seemed starved for attention........

Anyway, as the school year drew near an end, March 2004, I got a letter stating that I owed them money, something like $100.00 for not participating in school functions. But I did! Now, be aware that on "Open House" night, we were forced to take home an "Entertainment 2004" book. We were to sell some of these. I bought only one, for about $20.00, and sent the money to school within that first week. (I was later accused of NOT paying for it, until I provided them with a copy of the cashed check).

Also, the World's Finest Chocolate candy drive just ended, and we were able to sell the Whole case! (This was sent home without notice, mind you!) AND, My child got injured during the process. I called the school about this. I was told to read the handbook on "fund raising". I did, and nowhere did it say that I had to sell $200.00 of anything for the school. So I called the school back to argue this point. It only said to participate, and I did participate in selling SOME things.

Well, being that I was a new parent to the school, and the lady I spoke to went well over her "quota", she applied the balance to mine, and told me not to tell anyone. Also, the school had to retype this section to be more exact on the wording, so that it now will state that parents must sell $200.00 in fundraisers. It had to be real clear to parents. (HUMMM.....)

Now, on March 1,2004, we planned on sending my child back to this school. We paid the tuition and fees in full 100%! This was about $3,500.00 (We were impressed to find out that our child was 1 grade level higher, as went the admittance exam last year. And the Private education seemed a better choice than Public School, according to the previous school year. How Wrong were we!) By March 16, 2004, we decided maybe we'd have to rethink our decision of this school. So, I called and had the application pulled, and requested a refund. It was supposed to be in 2 weeks. This turned to 4 weeks, after calling the school a few times.

The day came to pick up my refund.... What a rip off! They kept $695.00 in so called "fees". Fees that include using the computer lab (approx. $250.00)-something we wouldn't be using, school books ( approx. $295.00)-we wouldn't be using, and a registration fee of $150.00. So I called the school to find out where my $695.00 was. I spoke to Christopher Day. He told me that I signed an agreement on the registration form. Which I got a copy of 2-3 weeks later, after me calling and leaving messages for him. Last year I was told differently. I was told that ONLY $150.00 would be kept, IF I changed my mind. Fair enough. It's their time I'm waisting. But people, for a school to keep my hard earned money, for services I will not use IS NOT right! This, my friend is Stealing! I clearly told Chris this! Many times in the comversation I told him it's "Stealing"!

By the way, if there are others in my situation, $695.00 adds up into the thousands! Oh, did I mention that this pastor drives a new Caddy Escalade pick up! I wonder where he got the money? From us "suckers" like me, who looses $695.00, I bet! I brought this up as well. The comment was "The church and school are run differently. I cannot say how he got the truck. Some of us are privilidged to own a nice vehicle." Well, I told him I own a Jaguar. But I got mine Honestly! I paid for it with my hard earned money. He also informed me that The school had to re-type the registration form, (And it now states that the school can change the cost of the fees without notice...as well as not refunding $695.00 in fees) TO protect itself from lawsuits. (A christian school protecting itself from lawsuits...Sounds fishy, HUH?!)

I wonder how many other parents went through the same crap I did. How many people were victims of "Theft" from a so-called "Christian" school??? Christians are taught not to steal! But I guess it's only meant for the children attending the school, Not the people Running IT!!! I spoke to my attorney, and unfortunately, I'm screwed!

But I did demand the $295.00 in books that we will not be using next year, but paid for! (This is something else to speak to my attorney about.... Actually Getting the books in August.)

So, all you people out there.....Don't be like me. If you plan on enrolling your child in a good school, read, reread, and REREAD all the fine prints first. If you have to, ask about their "fees". And better yet, do not pay them until you are positive about the school! Also, tour the school in question, before you enroll.

You may want to listen in on some of these "qualified" teachers. For a Christian school, the 1st grade teacher yells and degrades these little kids. I've heard her personally do so. I also reported this. I recently encountered a parent who was referring to this 26 year old girl, of a teacher. She is not qualified for her job. I've also witnessed my child's teacher do the same. Degrade the student in front of me! Where are these teachers' minds? Talk about child abuse!, it's in the schools we "trust" with our children. This is a true crime. But, nothing will be done because not enough parents stand up for their children. They believe the teacher is correct because of the educational background. I say Bulls#*t to this!

Listen to your children, Parents! They are your flesh and blood. They should be heard and believed first. Especially if it's them in this degrading situation! My child was labled as a problem child in public school. Yet, beginning at age 2 she's been playing games on the computer with me. And she's been able to fully work a computer since age 4. She showed her Teacher how to turn it on on her 1st day of Headstart! She's got ADHD, but is on medication. Yet, this doesn't take away her smarts. She's 1 grade level above her peers. Parents, listen to your children. God Bless!
