This store return policy is ridiculous! They try to FORCE people to buy from them! I got a floor mat as a gift which came from them. The sticker clearly had their store name on it. Unfortunately, my friend didn't give me a receipt and I didn't want to hurt her feelings by asking for it and letting her know that I didn't want it. This is common sense to anyone with empathy. Anyway, I called the store a head of time and the girl I spoke to told me it would be no problem. They would just ring up the price and take off $20% and give me the rest as my refund. However after driving 2 hours to get there I was told they would only give the refund to me as a store credit. When I told them there was nothing in their store that I wanted and that I NEVER shopped there anyway because their prices are too high, I basically got a Tough s**t answer. What really makes me mad about this situation is they are too STUPID to know that all I need to do is take that store credit, buy something with that and then return that item and get the refund that I wanted in the first place. This is just a waste of my time and utterly Ridiculous!!!

I understand what you’re saying and I respect your right to your opinion, but I still don’t believe personally that anyone should be FORCED to buy from a store that they don’t want to. And for your information I shop at many, many different stores and this is the ONLY store I have ever had experience with who uses these "Force” tactics even without a receipt. Also, I wouldn’t have been so upset if I hadn’t been lied to by that employee who assured me that getting a cash refund was no problem, BEFORE I drove 2 hours. As for my friend, you don’t know her.

I do and have for years and she would have been MORE hurt if I had told her upfront rather than do it secretly. Some people find comfort and joy in feeling and "pretending” that they have given the "perfect” gift. Ponder this: If everyone was as "Upfront” as you claim to be, Why then are there always such long return lines at hundreds of stores all over the country after Christmas and other holidays? I also find it sad that this company has to base return policies on the assumption that everyone who doesn’t have a receipt is a potential "thief” or "check bouncer.” I’m not here to argue with you.

The proof is in the pudding, as they say. I have NEVER seen any Bed, Bath and Beyond store overly crowded. As a matter of fact when I was leaving that particular store I actually heard another customer loudly asking the cashier why the store was so empty. You can even hate me if you want. I really don’t care, but look around you . . .many, many, many stores are going out of business. The ones that are standing tall are the ones that treat their customers with respect and courtesy and give them the right to choose where THEY want to shop regardless if they have a receipt or not. I’m not so sure the Bed Bath and Beyond will be one of the last standing. Only time will tell. Enough Said.

What is ridiculous is your attitude. Giving a "Store Credit" for No-Receipt returns is standard and has been for decades. Yes SOME may give cash back on small amounts (under a few dollars). But more and more major Big Box stores won't even accept a return/exchange without a receipt regardless of the amount.

Yes, it has a "tag" on it that says it came from that store. But it doesn't say how much was actually paid, when it was bought, nor more importantly HOW it was paid. Other than outright fraud/theft, one main reason these type of polices exist is because of the payment. It could have been done by a check that bounced, if it was done by a Credit Card then giving cash back from a purchase becomes a "Cash Advance" and CC's treat that as a different type of transaction and really frown on this type of action.

As for the "Oh I don't want to hurt my friends feelings". Guess what, your friend would probably be more upset that you hid the fact you didn't like the gift, instead of just coming out and telling them. For all you know she paid full price, so her full gift is just going to waste. What are you going to do if your friend every comes to see you and asks how you like the mat? Just think how YOU would feel. If your answer is you would feel more hurt if they told you than if they just went behind your back, you really need to evaluate why YOU gave the gift. Was it to bring happiness to your friend or to make you feel good?
