I wish I would have seen your post a few years ago.
I threatened to sue if they even thought of closing my accounts. I was going the way of discrimination, not for OD fees.
I tried to work with them but they wore out my patience.
Finally we strated waiting out on the sidewalk for the bank manager to come out to go home. I had a nice group of 14 from my neighborhood and 5 others who's money has been stolen. They also lived in the Broward County area. We heckled him all the way to his car and right out the drive way of Bank Atlantic at the corner of the 14th Street and A1A. The exact address is 3233 14th Street Causeway Pompano Beach Fl 33062.
The most shocking for anyone watching all of us is the fact that my Deaf and Blind brother was leading the pack with two other college buddies that were also Deaf and Blind. Oh it was priceless. They coummuicate through tactile sign langauge, and I did the interpreting for them, you should be ashamed of yourself.. "stealing from the Deaf and Blind, what kind of people can work for such whores." Everyone hates the banks right now, so it was so easy for people to just jump on board when they saw these Deaf Blind people out there. People were outraged at the fact that perhaps they them selves may not have been ripped off, but if Bank Atlantic was willing to stoop to this level, then what kind of a bank were they dealing with..and that's exactly the attention we wanted.
We had signs that read, Bank Atlantic does not discriminate against who they steal from. American's with Disabilites, no problem we'll screw you equally."
They bank manager left, August of 2007 when the cops told them we had a permit and were demonstrating peacefully and there was nothing they could do. We tried to find out which branch we transferred to to start in on him there. We also demonstrated in front of his gated community. There home addresses are fairly easy to get. Don't do anything illegal. We would pay them regular visits at the bank so my brother could complain to the manager about how he could have had a new service dog, but he couldn't get it now after Bank Atlantic stole the 1400.00 in OD fees that he was going to use to buy the dog. Then we contacted the advocates that trained service dogs explaining why we could not buy the dog now. They suggested we file a complaint with the Americans with Disabilitiies Act. We did and they investigated. Not much anyone can do, but it was so nice to be a relentless pain in the a*s to Bank Atlantic.
There are ways to get these bastards. You just got to be creative, and do it leagally.
My accounts are still open. You don't have any right to be in the bank if you don't have an open account or banking business there.
They hate to see me coming with my Deaf Blind brother, waiving his cane at the staff. Just priceless.
