Sadly this does happen...not at every AVIS, but it does happen, that person who rented you that car makes a good commision off of that coverage. Sadly there are alot of employees who take advantage of this system. You have no idea how many times they get away with putting an extra $20-500.00 on a contract. Two sugestions from someone who has been in the rental car business for a very long time.. 1. READ YOUR CONTRACT BEFORE SIGNING IT. IT IS CRAZY HOW MANY PEOPLE JUST SIGN SIGN SIGN. There is not much you can do if you signed off on these coverages. 2. Go above the local managers head...that manager is payed off that employees sales, so it comes out of that managers paycheck if they give you a refund...I see it everyday Branch managers who turn their heads becuase they are lazy or just want to profit in the sucess of their cheating employee. PLEASE DONT GIVE UP just keep complaining..you dont want this to happen to anyone else do you? With the above said, I have insider info from many car rental companies and Avis is one of the best...and that coverage you turned down saves many people from getting into a whole lot of debt. You would not belive how expensive it is to crash a rental car! Avis and Hertz will not charge you for little scratches and dings...they are huge companies and understand most of this happens in their own parking lots. If you want service go with Enterprise...all employees here are paid off of a "customer service goal" and you can really tell from the beginning of your rental to the end. Avis and Hertz are very fast and efficent if your looking to get in and out of an airport quickly go for these guys. all and all I am sorry about your experience, and good luck next time.
