A couple of kids tried to pull the Audiofile speaker rip-off on me in Austin TX too. They approached me in a parking lot driving a Blazer or Bronco and told me the same story everyone is reporting: the warehouse loaded up two extra pairs of speakers; if they take them to the job site their boss will just keep them for himself as he once did with a TV set; the others are due to be installed at Barton Creek Cinema; they just want to sell them for a little party money, etc. etc.

I have a little experience with true audiophile quality equipment. The vinyl finish on the speakers looked to cheesy to belong to a $1600-per-speaker system. Plus they said HOME THEATER on the box, which usually isn't a good sign sonically and suggests they probably wouldn't likely be installed in a real theater.

They were willing to let a pair go for a total of $300, so these are lousy speakers if they can make a profit on that.

One guy said his name was Aurelio. They said they worked for Southwest Audio and even produced a receipt for the speakers.

I didn't buy due to my reservations mentioned above and because it just seemed dishonest and I was imagining the kids getting busted by their boss and eventually the police finding me. Of course, their is no "boss," but it would be nice if they got busted!
