AT&T Pulls credit reports on existing customers without examining account history Monterey California
I had Pacific Bell DSL service from 2000-2007. After AT&T bought PacBell (SBC)they insisted on an Equifax pull when I changed addresses, despite my 7+ year history. They pulled the report twice. Probably 8/2007.
I am moving again, and when I called today, AT&T REFUSED to install a residential phone line for me unless I remove my Equifax freeze and they can pull the report again.
I explained that I was a recent customer at XXX-XXX-XXXX(within 30 days) a 7+ year customer at XXX-XXX-XXXX & an existing customer with 3 wireless numbers.
They still REFUSED to install a new residential phone line/DSL account for me unless I unfreeze my Equifax report & allow them yet a 3rd hard pull in a 15 month period.
I have an AT&T refund check on my desk from my last land line.
I am dumbfounded. I refuse to allow these people more access to my frozen credit reports then is necessary for common sense business purposes.
Do you know who I might contact to pursue this issue further? My wife is very severely disabled with life-threatening health conditions, and I believe their refusal to install basic telephone service is illegal.
I offered to appear in person at any AT&T office with my driver's license and passport to prove my identity. I am amazed that they cannot establish the identity of an existing customer with on-line access at this moment.
It is my belief that they are abusing the credit reporting system and negating the entire purpose of report freezes.
Thanks for listening.
I will gladly pursue this matter to any legal end, including litigation if it would make a difference.
