In 1999 I got a cell phone through AT&T Wireless, after a few months, I canceled service with the company. This was the first time I had a cell phone of my own, so when I received my bills, I never questioned anything, I just paid them and sent them off.

About three weeks after I left AT&T Wireless, I received a bill for around $70.00. Then a week later I received a bill for $101.34. When I called AT&T to ask them about the $101.34 bill they simply said it was the remainder bill for my last month of service. I paid the amount and sent the bill off.

Well, almost 6 months later, I received a notice stating I owed $101.34 to AT&T. So, I called my bank, got a copy of the cleared check, called AT&T told them I had already paid the bill and I would be sending them a copy of the cleared check. They said ok, it would take approximately three weeks for the resolution department to get back to me. I never heard anything from AT&T again. The next thing I get is a credit notice from Sunrise Credit Services (what a circus act that place is). I sent them a copy of the cleared check, and nothing.

To make a long story short, Palisades credit bought my account from AT&T, then sold it to Sunrise, then another company and not to TX Collect. I have been fighting this thing since 1999. I taked to the resolution department at TX Collect and they asked me (once again) to send in a copy of the cleared check, which I did. I called back about a week later and they said they found me in the right and had to report back to Palisades for the OK to remove the mark from my credit report. Well, that has been over 2 months ago, and I have called the woman back several times and left message after message on her voicemail, but, thanks to this site, I was able to contact Palisades. I spoke with a gentalman who could barely speak English but what I did get from him was they had "turned my account over to TX Collect" not "Sold it to TX Collect" and they no longer had the account opened, they had it as closed and void but, they had just gotten the account from AT&T in July of this year -yeah right, they have had it since 1999. I asked him to send me a statement with that information. He would never answer me on that, he said he was going to contact TX Collect and get back to me...Yeah right, I won't hold my breath but I will call him everyday from now until I die just to aggervate him as much as this whole ordeal has aggervated me!

I called Palisades credit yesterday and the guy I spoke with said they JUST bought my so-called "debt" from AT&T Wireless in JULY 2004. That is bull, they have been trying to collect from me on one account since 1999 and I have a cleared check from my bank for the amount they are trying to collect. But now they are trying to say I have THREE accounts with AT&T Wireless. I am consulting with a lawyer, hopefully I can get these people out of my life for good. Isn't there some kind of law to protect us against this kind of fraud?
